Rigged Death Trap posted:CtOS not being instantly dumped and shat on after the events of the game is the most stupid thing, jesus. This is one of the parts that things fall even more flat on. We've had an omnipresent Evil Future Corporation(tm) around the entire game. There's audio logs, conversations, whole scenes dedicated to showing that they're blatantly evil, they're taking over the city from the inside, they're spying on everyone all the time, they're experimenting with mind control and in the end not one of the heroes really gives a poo poo. Sure, Aiden will steal, lie and murder to prevent Damien from getting access to that, but he's totally cool with the entire setup existing and being in the hands of god knows who! Even from the exceedingly generous 'Aiden is Batman' perspective, it's utterly nonsensical.

I think this is kind of a fault of the mishmash storytelling, as something like that is very much a Noir staple in that our protagonist achieves some goal or merely survives but the wheels of corruption spin on. The problem comes is that sort of dis-empowerment clashes with your overall skill set and the "Grandness" of the final arc.

I also can't see it making sense at all that Blume is just able to go "This giant hacking attack on Chicago only proved that ctOS is strong and therefore we're spreading it around the world!" Chicago has spent months or years (who knows how long apps like Aiden's have been available?) having their traffic lights hosed with, fuse boxes and steam pipes exploding, their bank accounts hacked, etc. Combine that with Ded_Sec constantly butting in to spread their message by hacking Jumbotrons, and ctOS should have been an epic PR disaster for Blume. The game has to assume that everyone in America is a blind moron who immediately accepts everything they're told, regardless of what explodes right in front of them.

My issue is actually not even that - the wheels of corruption keep turning is a valid story element/moral, but the problem is that none of the characters care. At no point does Aiden give a drat that Blume is literally using mind control, stealing elections, violating literally every privacy law known to man and is outright murdering people for their own advantage - he just wants to not let Damien get hold of it (which is even a wild assumption on his part, since I don't think Damien actually ever shows he knows Bellwether exists). T-Bone, despite building the drat thing in the first place before having an attack of conscience, doesn't even seem to have a problem with the corporate overlords he's battling against (and who tried to murder him) having loving mind control. None of the characters who are aware of the situation show any concern at all about the subject. That's insane.

I genuinely can't believe that at the literal last second they tried to make that guy we had Jordi shove in a closet for the entire game into some huge moral choice deal. Like we ruined this guys life in a billion ways despite the fact that he really meant nothing to our mission, just got done with all the actual people to blame, and had our big climatic hero speech, and now Aiden just walks in and the game expects you to feel something strongly about the whole encounter. They might as well have had a scene where Aiden disassembles the gun the dude used and dramatically have him throw each piece in the ocean or something while he mumbles about how this gun is to blame as well.

HGH posted:Three words. Deep Silver also used them for Saints Row 4 on PS4 and Xbone, which makes me worry about that series' future. If they don't care about Saints Row enough to get a decent port out, how bad will the sequel be? That port of SR4 runs at 1080p which seems to be only for marketing reasons. The textures are straight out of the last gen versions with trilinear filtering. Anti-aliasing is set to off. There is a "V-sync" option in the menu that does nothing at all, screen tearing is always present. The game still fails to run at a consistent frame rate.

TechnoSyndrome posted:It's baffling how they screwed up so bad on an HD port of a PS2 game. It isn't really. Zone of the Enders as a series uses a lot of little tricks and workarounds that basically required the PS2's emotion engine to properly work and naturally, other than early BC USA/JP PS3's, they don't have access to that (and they couldn't code it to take advantage on the off chance the user has a PS3 with one). Which means you need to get a proper workaround going which takes time and money, two things they probably weren't offered. Zone of the Enders 2 was hard to run at full speed on a PS2 emulator for a very long time and I can't say for certain that it's even possible now. Bearing in mind that the PS3 and 360 aren't powerful hardware and it's pretty understandable, albeit not ideal or really even acceptable levels of performance.

As we've been talking about the game being too "current" and not going for a further out cyberpunk/more futuristic style, i realized that that's a great way to get around the copious inaccuracies about Chicago, be they from copyright/trademark issues or technical ones. If you can't have a building or sculpture in the city because they're worried about being sued, just redesign some building that's all neon and chrome and poo poo. Then it can actually be an interesting replacement instead of a PIZZA or CHEESEBURGER.

The tv show Person of Interest focuses around an ex special forces agent who speaks in a gravelly near whisper all the time, and an elite hacker with a limp who gain access to a system they call "The Machine" which see everything in New York and can predict crimes before they happen. They use the machine to spy on the officials and higher ups, catch them with cartels and stuff and show that even the cops are corrupt. It seems they smudged the margins a little bit to avoid a lawsuit.

Like, there's Laval which is both the neighboring island and the neighboring city/giant suburb and then there's the two tiny islands with the amusement parc and the casino, but Montreal isn't a mess of tiny islands, it's one big island.

You realise, of course, that once reliable, almost infallible MIND CONTROL has been introduced into a plot, the bad guys have already won? Of course nobody questions ctOS being the best thing ever, because THE BAD GUYS HAVE MIND CONTROL. Of course literally nobody gives a poo poo about Blume having mind control, because THEY HAVE MIND CONTROL. But perhaps that's giving the writers too much credit.
