The Obamacare line was great. The combination of Mulder's tone, and it of course being something that Mulder would say, and of course be something that a nun would accept on why the mean old socialist government has to stick its nose into the church's business.

Plus I feel like everyone complaining about "all the 2016 references" forget how much the original run referenced stuff from contemporary developments. Waco, Oklahoma City bombing, the Clinton impeachment, the militia movement, the ALH meteorite all got referenced and that's just off the top of my head.

Fox Mulder stood guard for me in several late 90's - early 2000's startup cubicles. He's happy to be back out of the box of beanie babies and matchbox cars to his rightful place. Bids start at $5,000. :colbert:

The first thing my parents did after I got them high speed interwebs and an AppleTV a few years ago was go and binge all of X-Files.

I agree that Ep1 was a bit of a mess and Ep2 was a huge step up (despite the weird editing). I think Duchovny was sick during filming or something as he sounded and acted fine in that Aquarius show from earlier in 2015.

I distinctly remember watching the episode in the underground lab, where people get infected and the plant explodes out of their throat. I was 6 years old or something at the time and was playing with mechano while watching it at night. My mother went "You better not get bad dreams from watching the X-files!" and guess what happened? I had a god drat nightmare that night and woke up screaming. I dreamt that I was locked up in a house made out of god drat mechano.

So don't talk about X-Files being scary for kids, that poo poo was mild. :colbert:

OH my god, I had so many loving nightmares because of this show as a kid

Also, I just rewatched Erlenmeyer Flask, and holy poo poo is that an amazing episode

You should watch the show, yes. I mean you can watch this, but it's going to be weird as hell for you.

Also, I heard that Episode 2 was supposed to be Episode 5, hence why it seems rushed after Episode 1.

Finally got around to watching it second episode. It was a great stand-alone monster-of-the-week. Why was that so hard for them to do in the first episode?

I really enjoyed both episodes, but yeah the second was a lot stronger. I can see where most of the complainers are coming from. Though I'm kind of baffled at the people who complain about Mulder spouting a load of absolutely ridiculous theories- he used to do that in every episode!

loving hell Fox. Are they capable of showing a scifi show in the correct order? I remember they did the same thing with Serenity and Almost Human.

I haven't seen any of the other X-Files but the premise is basically "Conspiracy Theorist and more rational person investigate weird stuff as part of the FBI". Everything else you can kind of pick up by context (like how they've been inactive for a while).

Well yeah I suppose you could just jump in with the new episodes if you really want to, and still follow the plot without any major issues.

But the old episodes are really good and on Netflix so you should watch them first.

If that is the 5th episodes, there is a good chance that it might be reminding people about William, as his story might not be finished.

Well, before it would be just him talking and sounding like a lunatic. This time though it had a bunch of stock video stuff for every beat like a bad youtube video making it sound too authoritative, like if the showrunners are talking and not the character

I have a potentially stupid question, or maybe its just that the first episode really was that bad.

Isn't this a rehash of a storyline they did around the midpoint of the series, maybe season 4 or 5? Mulder got a lead from some contact that led him to evidence that showed the whole UFO/alien abduction phenomenon was just a smokescreen for government experiments. I swear all that happened before, I think around the time when he almost came to believe Samantha had been abducted by a serial killer.

Am I missing some detail that makes this storyline different from that storyline? Does the direct involvement of the Roswell crash change things somehow? Did I miss a line if dialogue somewhere?

Yeah they had a somewhat similar plot in season 5. The difference is in season 5 Mulder was led to believe that aliens didn't exist and all the abductions were human led.

The plot they're running now says that yes humans are the ones behind all that poo poo but they're doing it with stolen alien tech.

Season 5 = it was just the government all along, no such thing as aliens

Now = it was the government all along, but aliens do exist. the government conducts abductions using stolen alien tech from crashes/shot down craft.

Also in the first movie, the informant character Dr. Hurtzweil tells Mulder in an alley way about the govt take over plan begins on X day (national holiday in movie, Friday in Sunday's episode) and FEMA takes over and everything goes to poo poo. Both speeches were very similar.

I just wish at some point in the first episode this would have been acknowledged, even just one line of dialogue would have done it. Like, "Wow Mulder, remember that time you thought UFO abductions were a government sponsored distraction? Maybe you weren't so off-base after all!"

Also something else will probably turn out to be the case since it was only the first episode, plus the old doctor from the flashbacks flat-out told Mulder he wasn't quite right.

The old man laughing about the old series shapeshifting burly muscleman aliens setting each other on fire doesn't make sense though, since that happened plenty of times when only the smoking man or somebody was around and I don't even know if Mulder found out about all that stuff.
