More like 'she'll be right', I think.

'We'll spend more on education/health/police/whatever' just fades into the background, people agree with it but it's pretty dull.

Give us a space program or something people can feel some pride in.

Lacking a bit of NBN punch huh?

Being the incumbent is an advantage for the first time in a while. Especially if it has the veneer of being calm and in control.

They want you to do something important to the government via myGov? Expected return to government $0.00

If my Mum is anything to go by Turdball has succeeded in blaming everything bad about his administration on 'The Right' while making a number of high profile small 'L' liberal stances/stunts. I've mentioned previously that just not alienating half the population by being a serial creeper would shore up any one who's name was not-Abbott. My prediction is Turdball in a landslide with a senate majority. If the Tories play it cool then they will last at least three terms and we'll have:

An even more authoritarian day to day life (especially if you are a welfare recipient).
A 15% GST (but not on fresh food).
A progressively more mean spirited erosion of penalty rates.
An even greater divide between the rich and poor.

Apparently the green army is implementing a huge 'urban canopy' program anyone confirm/deny preferably with commentary?

Given the overtures that Tones was making this seems like a hopelessly optimistic prediction for a double majority Liberal party.

My sister-in-law manages part of the Green Army, I could ask her the next time I see her if you'd like?

If you just wanted a news article on it though there's this.
http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/turnbull-governments-plan-to-make-cities-cooler-and-greener-20160118-gm8fdz.html

quote:

Turnbull government's plan to make cities cooler and greener
Nicole Hasham

If you've been broiling in an asphalt jungle over the past few weeks, rest assured: the Turnbull government has a plan to cool you down.

The federal government wants to increase tree cover in big cities to dial down the heat and improve health and quality of life as part of its new focus on the lives of metropolis-dwellers.

Acting Cities Minister Greg Hunt is on Tuesday expected to outline a plan to work with cities to set goals for each decade to 2050 to increase "urban canopies", or overall tree coverage.

Mr Hunt last month took on Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's pet Cities portfolio following the resignation of former minister Jamie Briggs.

In a speech to the Sydney Business Chamber on Tuesday, his first since assuming the role, Mr Hunt is expected to emphasise the susceptibility to extreme heat of people living in large cities.

Urban development pressures can lead to treeless streets that amplify the "heat island" effect on hot days.

"Extreme heat place[s] the most vulnerable people in our cities - including the very young and very old - at high risk, and contributes to a number of deaths each year," his speech notes say.

As well as decade-by-decade goals to develop urban canopies, the government will "look at building rooftops with green cover".

Mr Hunt will warn that the public purse cannot fund the infrastructure needed to keep up with rapid growth in capital cities, and will point to flexible financial arrangements being considered by the government.

These include "value capture" - finance models that aim to capture the gain in land value that property owners enjoy when public infrastructure is built nearby.

It can include property taxes, parking levies or giving property development rights to transport operators.

"One of the fairest ways to fund new infrastructure investment is for the beneficiaries of that infrastructure to contribute to the cost," Mr Hunt will say.

The government will also seek to increase the number of jobs in residential areas, to limit commute times.

Mr Hunt's speech notes praise the "20 minute city" model proposed in Melbourne where, through changed land-use mix, every suburb would be a short commute to jobs, schools, shops and leisure facilities.

He is expected to hail the emergence of the Greater Sydney Commission, the new organisation charged with overseeing planning and development across Sydney. It is led by the Prime Minister's wife Lucy Turnbull.

Mr Hunt will flag a potential expansion of that model to other cities, saying it shows how all levels of government can work together to "plan for how our cities will grow".

That's where the 'Play it cool' part comes in. Turdball isn't a demogog like Abbott and may be happy to play the usual 'steady as she goes' game. Yes the loony right will want to use a senate majority to immediately reintroduce feudalism but that would lead to a prompt election defeat unless some particularly vicious anti asylum seeker sentiment could be frothed up or 'better yet' a terror attack on our soil. Will be instructive to see how GFC II plays out around all this.

Teen planned to pack kangaroo with explosives and let it loose on Anzac Day, court hears

A Melbourne teenager discussed painting a kangaroo with the Islamic State group's symbol, packing it with explosives and letting it loose on police as part of an alleged terror plot on Anzac Day, court documents have alleged.

Sevdet Besim, 19, from Hallam, in Melbourne's outer south-east, pleaded not guilty to four charges relating to planning a terrorist act over the phone and internet in the lead-up to Anzac Day in Melbourne last year.

Prosecutors withdrew another charge of conspiring to commit the attack.

They also accused Besim of communicating with a teenager overseas, as well as planning to behead or run over a police officer on Anzac Day because the date would make the attack more memorable.

A summary of telegram communications allegedly between the two teenagers, presented by the prosecution, detailed a conversation about using a kangaroo as part of an attack.

telegram posted:

"Communications resume in the early hours of Thursday 20 March 2015 with an image being sent by BESIM with a comment of 'look what I got ahaha'," the court documents said.
"The conversation continues with BESIM detailing what he did that day and they have a general discussion around animals and wildlife in Australia including a suggestion that a kangaroo could be packed with C4 explosive, painted with the IS symbol and set loose on police officers."
Besim allegedly said: "Main thing I guess is that I send the dog to hell".

The prosecution alleged Besim conducted several internet searches in February 2015, including "Anzac day parade 2015", "shrine of Remembrance" and "Melbourne Anzac Day 2015".

Besim was remanded in custody to face the Victorian Supreme Court on February 3.
