Fair enough. The con hotel is obscenely expensive so gently caress that poo poo. It's only an hour or so for me by train so I might just come up that way. I think it'll be about 2 hours door to door all told. Can you get the link for the premier inn? If it's a more reasonable price it would certainly be more convenient to stay.

I upgraded my card solutions recently, guess I'll give a trip report in the hope it'll be useful to someone else. My ships are all in KR Multicases in a KR Backpack 2. Its now overcapacity so I just ordered a KR Backpack 4 and some more card cases. I like KR but it is far from cheap and its overkill for X-wing but I'm locked in now, anyone who asks I refer them to Plano cases except for that double-sided lockjaw one because flipping it over to get to stuff on the other side makes your entire collection shift and tumble and my nerves couldn't take it.) I have one of these (http://www.amazon.com/Plano-1374-Ra...plano+stow+n+go) for my Armada stuff and I wish I'd gone with this for my X-Wing over KR, though I do know my stuff is better protected at least. For a while I was using a Broken Token Mini-American Card Case (http://www.thebrokentoken.com/mini-american-card-case/) for my upgrade cards and, for my pilot cards, 3 Ultra-Pro Deck Boxes, one for each faction. The Imperial box got so stuffed I had to pull out all the TIE/lns, TIE/ins, and TIE/fos to make room and put them in a 4th box. All these boxes went in the bottom of a toolbox (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-22-in-Cantilever-Plastic-Tool-Box-with-Metal-Latches-189745/202021302) along with a Parts Organizer (http://www.homedepot.com/p/Husky-14-in-Parts-Bin-Organizer-83053N13/204536846) that is able to hold everything (tokens, templates, dice) I need to play. I need to do a little cutting and I'll be able to get my damage deck in there. A smaller parts organizer holds the epic-specific tokens. The top of that tool box holds the vast quantities of extra tokens I (and the rest of us) have ended up collecting, along with my Damage Decks. Anyway, on to the upgrade. I realized that that Broken Token case would pop apart the first time it got dropped and it wasnt really practical for actually looking at the cards; the Ultra-Pro boxes are cheap and felt like they would eventually fall apart, so I ordered 2 Ultimate Guard Mini American FlexXfolios and 3 Ultimate Guard FlexXfolio 4-Pocket folios for my pilot cards, one for each faction. All my pilot cards are in FFG sleeves, and these fit nicely the 4-pocket folios; 2 cards can stack in a single cell comfortably, 3 not so much. A single release ship, for example, the Kihraxz Fighter, will have 4 pilot cards and will fit nicely on a single side of one page in the folio; two of the same ship expansion can still fit on a single page, but 3+ will end up spilling over onto further pages. A multiple-release ship (Starter-set Ships, Aces ships) will probably take up 3-5 pages, depending. Having each faction in their own folio so far has left me with plenty of room to expand even though I am a "Buy 1+ of everything" collector type Upgrade Cards are also in FFG sleeves; these fit snugly in the Mini American folio. I wish they were a tad looser, they snag a little going in if they are at a angle. Double stacking (sleeved) cards in a cell seems like a bad idea. I use 2 folios, the first holds all the upgrades except munitions, cannons, and turrets, the second holds those and epic-specific cards (hardpoints, cargo, teams) Again, despite having 1+ of everything I have plenty of room to expand. Sorry if I sounded like a commercial.

I should post some photos when I get home, but my wife got me two Plano 5321 cases that I built inserts for. I used a stiff foam and an X-Acto knife to cut divots and such for the ships. It holds them all pretty snugly, most are stored engine-side down. TIEs just require a couple slits cut into the foam to hold them in with sidewall pressure. Everything stays in well enough that I can hold the case upside down and wiggle and nothing falls out. It's really slick for the small ships, but the big ships are not upside-down safe. edit: Also for cards, just take the plunge and buy the 3 ring binder sleeves. For the big ones and small ones, the Ultra Pro ones work great. canyoneer fucked around with this message at 02:09 on Jan 29, 2016 |

I ran Talonbane with Predator, Homing Missile, EU and Glitterstim, along with the 4 Z's with Feedback. Faced Howlrunner and 5 naked Bombers. I was too aggressive with Talon and got him killed but by then I was range 1 with a couple Z's and gave Howlrunner her last two damage. I kept blowing Feedbacks while his dice kept blanking out for attacks and defense. I ended up losing but he only had two Bombers with 3 hull each left. If I had swung around with Talon I probably could have got him. Feedbacks are fun.

You know whats better than Barrel rolling Vader around one of your own TIEs to get R1 on Soontir, getting a TL, rolling blank/focus/Crit, spending the TL (forgoing a free second crit) to roll again and getting 2 hits, watching Soontir roll 4 dice and only getting 1 evade, taking 1 hit and 1 crit which turns out to be a Direct hit? Nothing. Nothing is better than that. Eat my rear end Soontir.

Nope. Crit-clowning Soontier = Best Thing Ever. Ok so last night was the 3rd and Final Round of Lord Angelo's Movie Memories X-Wing Tournament, and it was Episode VI on the menu tonight. To Recap, 40 pts for Episode IV, +40 for Episode V, +40 for Episode VI I used: Week 1 / Episode IV: Darth Vader (29) Expert Handling (2) Cluster Missiles (4) Advanced Targeting Computer (1) Engine Upgrade (4) TIE/x1 (0) Total: 40 I went 2 and 2 with good ol' Vader here, and only 3 of 5 Brownie points issued from Lord Angelo, because Darth didnt fire Missiles. Wedge didnt Fire Proton Torps either but that didnt keep another dude from getting 5/5 points for his list. Week 2 / Episode V Darth Vader (29) Expert Handling (2) Cluster Missiles (4) Advanced Targeting Computer (1) Engine Upgrade (4) TIE/x1 (0) "Howlrunner" (18) Juke (2) "Night Beast" (15) Total: 75 I went 2 and 1 with this list, and got 5 of 5 brownie points; Howlrunner and her wingman were def in ESB and I even ran them into some rocks just like the movie. Week 3 / Episode VI Darth Vader (29) Expert Handling (2) Cluster Missiles (4) Advanced Targeting Computer (1) Engine Upgrade (4) TIE/x1 (0) "Howlrunner" (18) Juke (2) "Night Beast" (15) "Winged Gundark" (15) Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13) Obsidian Squadron Pilot (13) Total: 116 1 and 1 with this list but nobody cares about that, its all about the brownie points. Obsidian Squadron fought at Endor so this should be an easy 5, right? 3 of 5. "Judging was harsher this week on everybody because I took the entirety of the list into account and Darth Vader didn't fly his T/A in RotJ" BTW the "Thematic Points" get added into the Win/Lose scores for the series, so 3pts is the same as a Modified Victory, and 5 is a Victory. I'm thinking that the only squad you could make that would go 5/5/5 would be a combination or Red Squadron X wings, Gold Squadron Y's, and Wedge.

Wow I didn't think you'd go through with it. Subjective points for leagues are the worst. Everyone laughs about the famous one for the magic singleton format. Basing it on the movie is even worse than the worst since now you have this Star Wars grognard calling all the shots and probably using the EU (novelization, comic books) to defend some of their decisions.

I've never played this, but a few people at work have been talking about getting a game night going once in awhile, with this being the premier game. We'd probably be playing 2-3 person matches with 100 points. I assume I'd want to buy the "Force Awakens" core set, and then some addons, what would be a good base setup for a 100 point game? I don't have a preference as to which faction.

One of the more reasonably priced entry points IMO, and gives you fun ships with iconic characters.

I took part of a league which was Shadows of the Empire themed and they just stopped you using certain pilots that were dead by that point. Also only one person could fly a certain named pilot per week. We didn't have theme brownie points either, that sounds loving awful. Had a really exciting much which ended when my last standard by ship, a Z-95, destroyed Echo by sniping it's last hit point even though it was cloaked. That pilot deserves a medal

Probably. Do we have a points cost for TIE/D Maarek yet? EDIT: If he's one point more than Vessery due to PS, then you'll have 5 points to play with for the list. Nine if you use the X7 Title, which is enough for a full Vader (EU/Predator/Title/ATC) and VI on Maarek for PS9, and the other Defender naked. Or you could put VI on Vader and give Maarek a 3 point EPT, or something similar. Strobe fucked around with this message at 23:18 on Jan 29, 2016 |

|
# ? Jan 29, 2016 23:29 |

R1 Talonbane; +1 die of damage > -1 die of agility, because red dice deal more than green dice reduce on average. I think. Range 3 I don't see how it's a contest, Wedge's ability still works in the offence but Talonbane's only works in defence. Overall, probably Wedge, because the Astromech slot just has so much better stuff in it than the Illicit, not to mention the extra shield being better than the extra hull. I mean, just the likes of R2D2 own anything that Illicit can currently offer. But I much prefer Talonbane's ability. E: also, FFG y u no preview Punishing One. And y u no loving release wave 8 goddamnit I want my flying loo seat. thespaceinvader fucked around with this message at 23:39 on Jan 29, 2016 |

bunnyofdoom posted:Can anyone do stats on whether Talonbane or Wedge is better at R3, and R1? Depends on what mods you can get going, and how many green dice you're shooting at plus the defenders' tokens. In general without mods, the five dice have a higher damage cap, but the 4 dice plus reduced evades is going to do more reliably damage to a ship that has 3 agility (average of 2.22 hits per evade for Talonebane, 2.67 per evade for Wedge. That means that Wedge is more likely to hit but Talonbanes hits are going to be bigger when the dice fail).
