Actually it is a massively discussed topic, there are probably hundreds of NGOs working to rectify the problem, I even went on a field school where pollution and lack of recycling infrastructure was a topic of discussion. No one is picking on the rich vs poor when reporting this singular incident. Plus the guy is kind of famous. How many poor people living in developing countries are famous? Fame generates news. I bet there are tons of incidences of rich assholes anchoring their yachts in bad places and causing irreparable damage that we don't hear about.

Now I know what it's like (self.childfree) Hi. Lurk here often, love you all. My wife and I are child free, but I now believe I know what it's like to parent a child but without whatever the "good parts" supposedly are. So my 80yo MIL moved in with us last summer. It was the right thing and we're glad we were able to do it, but this is EXACLTY why I don't want kids. Let me say first that she's been tested and she does NOT have dementia. But like a teenager, she doesn't remember a drat thing you tell her. You have to repeat yourself over and over. She's just lazy about things she could drat well do herself. My grocery bill has skyrocketed. Like some kind of toddler, when she wants something, she wants it RIGHT NOW no matter what you might be doing. Her solution to everything is to go buy some gadget. I want to yell "we're not made out of money!!!!" She gets her feelings hurt if she doesn't get enough attention. Always carting her off to the doctors. She has inexplicable rules for everything that she can't deviate from. Apparently khaki sheets are an apostasy and she can't sleep on them? I can't wait for her to go off to college!

If you've spanked your kid, it doesn't automatically make you a terrible person. If you've read any of the many peer reviewed studies on why it doesn't achieve the effect you're looking for long-term (respect for others, learning to manage emotions, etc) and STILL hit your child, you're a terrible person.
