I liked how everyone's theory back in S1 about Bill Bones surviving getting bumped off the boat thanks to his huge guns, ending up happening in the story.

It was the Jolly Roger flag that Hornigold found and not THE COAT, right? Couldn't tell from the shot. Reading Treasure Island right now, first time ever read it - everyone I mention that to says they read it in high school, what kind of lazy rear end high school did I attend Loving all the references to Black Sails characters in it, got ahold of a couple of non fiction pirate history books to go through next like The Republic of Pirates and Under the Black Flag.

It was Flint's Jolly Roger, probably lost when he cut the top sail free due to the storm. The coat is safe. Rocksicles posted:Flint's PTSD is masterfully shot. I couldn't agree more. It's simply a stunningly bleak portrait of a man losing it.

This show being back has put me in an age of piracy/1600s-1700s kind of mood again, anyone know of any good podcasts that get in depth about the goings ons of the period?

I guess I'm the only one who didn't really like almost any of the first two seasons. Not sure why I kept watching for so long but I'm glad I did. It feels like a completely different show to me, Flint losing it, Silver growing, both things we're actually watching through very well shot and conveyed scenes and not just being told about through the 900th monologue or faction betrayal. I hope it's a lot more of this and a whole lot less of Eleanor's bullshit. So loving tired of her and/or that whole aspect of the show.

Yeah, I can definitely see how that part gets grating. On the other hand, if they never did lengthy dialogue of any kind from the start, nerds would be like: "What is dis?! It doesn't make any sense! EXPLAIN MOVIE!" But I do agree that I like the show moving away from the dialogue somewhat and into the visual more. Also smaller things, like Vane's frustration after being asked to stop working, is something I completely get, but yea...most spergy nerds would be all: "Why's he acting out liek a little child? Behavior does not compute with logic. Beep. Boop."

I wonder if they'll use the Walrus losing it's flag as a chance to fix that little historical inaccuracy. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure they've been using Blackbeard's historical flag.

Well hopefully either Vane or Titus Pullo will kill her this season! I will be very upset if she somehow manipulates Vane and survives again since she's just such a boring character in such an awesome cast.

Their flags were awesome. I'm upset we're not gonna get to see Black Sam Bellamy in the show. He and Calico Jack are my favorite historical pirates. And Black Bart too, but he raided along the African coast more so I don't think he'll be showing up either. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jolly_Roger

When you do semi-historical stuff like this and Spartacus and other similar shows, an issue you can run into is that some of your antagonists can't die. Spartacus' final season had that because seriously gently caress Crassus and Caesar, those sons of whores. Their way around that was by creating their own characters who they could have killed, and give the protagonists that little win the audience wanted. Especially because we all know there's no victory at the end of Spartacus. So depending on how far they want to take Eleanor, since she's fictional there's that option. However currently she's meant to be seen as one of the good guys.

Or, you know, say gently caress history and have the pirates of Nassau wage war against England and Spain, kill everyone in their way, blow up half the British fleet, and end the show with a democratic pirate council ruling over a free island. It worked for Inglorious Basterds.

So any ideas on what tall and dark and grisly is in Flint's dream? I'm thinking it's "Mr. Flint" from his story last season, acting as his reflection of a monster born from the sea.
