“I went to the lake because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practise resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms. tongue but hole” ― Henry David Thoreau, Ash: Or, Life by the Lake

towards the end of Run Like Hell hallways start to show up that are made of alien meat and it took the game forcing me to go down one to get me to enter one i'm surprised dead space didn't do the same thing since dead space and run like hell share so much

qnqnx posted:a bad attempt at hiding that you pirated Earthbound Nah that poo poo was easy as hell to buy back when it came out, since it sold like crap and was in bargain bins everywhere, I was just lucky to know a few kids with Nintendo Power subscriptions that could tell me it was a cool game. Also used to get scared shitless at Treasure of the Deep since the crappy PS1 draw distance meant things could just pop up at you and the ocean is fuckin' scary. Especially in videogame land where there's a Bermuda Triangle level where an alien ship attacks you out of nowhere. Then there's the Dreamcast Ecco game where one of the first big enemies is a giant fuckin' shark that bites you in half. gently caress underwater games.

When you lost your last ship in super battleship for the SNES you were treated to a jarring, nightmare inducing cacophony. I didn't want to play that game anymore.

The silent hunter u-boat games had an option where you can turn off external camera and when (not if) they sink you it really makes you realize how much more it would suck to die like that.

Playing Axiom Verge today I was pretty creeped out by a place that kind of mimics a glitched out 'out of bounds' Metroid map. I think metroid had a profound effect on me as a child.
