If you don't extract by the timer you lose all your dudes. Cool. Can't wait for the balance mods to come out.

Extracting a VIP, ran up next to some cover. Discovered I could open the cover, got an advanced stock. gently caress yeah. On the other hand, now I have to go obsessive looking for literal loving treasure chests because I am incapable of leaving secrets undiscovered.

This is a useful post, and seems to match with what I've been figuring out on my own. I didn't know that you can let the meter max out and still have two weeks of time to spare, but I can't really abuse that in that way since I have one facility in an area I have easy access to, but the other one I know of is in loving New Arctic which is as far away from my HQ as is possible (there's no way to fly across the Bering Strait, apparently).

Ahahahah, got Lightning Reflexes on promotion for my Blademaster Ranger. I was going to give him Shadowstep, but now that Lightning Reflexes makes one miss and actually triggers to draw shots away from my other guys, he's getting Shadowstrike to open up my ambushes.

If the objective is to kill all enemies, yes. Those ones are generally the ones where your objective is to disarm a bomb or something but you still need to actually, you know, get the thing you came for.

If you retrain soldiers, will they lose their bonus traits? If they had no bonus traits from not having Advanced Warfare when you promoted them, will they then get them? Debating if I should send my Alpha team people back to POD SCHOOL.

DreamShipWrecked posted:Extracting is half the mission, you can't just ignore the timer Yeah. Honestly playing this like you do the last game where you have a six man "A Team" and a bunch of rookies you haven't laid of yet just won't work. You have to be aggressively moving towards those objectives any time you aren't actively shooting. And when I say "Aggressive" I mean overwatching every turn isn't going to work. My first move is generally to sprint my shotgun wielding angel of death forward as far as she can go into at least light cover. If she's clear the rest of the squad joins. If she sees a pod the rest of the squad envelops the pod as much as possible without setting them off. You are absolutely going to take wounds and will need a rotating stock of soldiers that can go on the next mission when it crops up. Literally the only missions you can be an overwatch fairy on are the ones without timers (Also if you can rescue six civies early in a terror mission or whatever the gently caress they are called). Also I need someone to mod in golf clubs, hockey sticks, and cricket bats as melee weapons. The hockey mask is already there. Casey Jones must live.

For missions with a pre-set extract like VIP rescues, I can't set up my own extract zone, right? I just did my first Avatar facility post-blacksite and it was easy going since there's no timer and you can place your own EZ. ulmont posted:How do you do this part again? When you mouse over an area you've contacted there'll be a logo for a radio tower. Click that, pay the supply cost, and fly Avenger to the new icon that pops up to progress the timer for it until it's done.

ulmont posted:How do you do this part again? Your HQ starting region always has a tower (well, several towers), so when you've expanded into a new region after that there's an icon of a tower in the region. Click on icon, spend supplies and time to build a relay tower in the region, boosting regional income and making it cheaper to expand from that region. You don't have to put up towers in every single region especially at lower difficulties if there's only one region connecting to it, but it helps.

I'm probably going to restart my game from scratch when I get home. I made some pretty big blunders in the strategic map/build and research orders and when I went to bed I could feel my campaign grinding to a halt. Unless someone can tell me: Is there a decent way to farm up intel? I require 50 to move to the next black site continent and welp. Broken Cog posted:How do you make enemies panic? Missions are the big one, especially the resistance ones, though there are Guerrilla Ops missions that can potentially give Intel. Otherwise there's random rewards of intel from hacking ADVENT towers and mission objectives, researching ADVENT datapads or alien data caches, scanning a site on the world map or just sitting at HQ and scanning for a week.

Just did the blacksite mission (Commander difficulty). It was a heroic disaster. Deployed 2 grenadiers, 1 sharpshooter, 1 specialist and 1 ranger. Lost one grenadier due to bad luck in the first engagement which nearly took out 2 pods in one turn of shooting, but one stun lancer got through and critted my squaddie grenadier to death before receiving a dose of shotgun to the face in the next turn. Then things continued pretty well after that, avoided the turret, dealt with the android pod without casualties, was then caught wrongfooted by a pod containing a viper that appeared behind me (stupid! stupid! stupid!) which ended my other grenadier and the specialist. I then thought I had only the reinforcements left but my 2 remaining troopers before entering the room with the vial had to deal with a pod of ADVENT troopers before picking it up. After picking up the vial my ranger was knocked unconcious by a stun lancer who appeared as part of a reinforcement drop, this left my sharpshooter to deal with 3 ADVENT (including an officer) by himself, which by some miracle he did, pistols seem to have pretty good accuracy at close range even if enemies are in cover, and return fire also gave good return on investment. After they were down I was just able to pick up the ranger with the sharpshooter and reach the extraction area while surronded by the next reinforcement pod. Think the sharpshooter bagged close to 10 enemies during this mission and 3 of those while on his own.
