So I only just now noticed that a soldier's attitude customization setting also affects the lines they speak. I switched Jane Kelly to "Twitchy" and in the next battle I heard a couple kinda nervous sounding lines I haven't heard before. And now that I think about it, my other soldiers' lines also fit their attitudes.

Pretty neat touch, I like it.

It's fun. American Voice 10 female twitchy I'm pretty sure is my main assault and they are so unsure of everything. Like they stutter over questioning my command for half a second than say "I guess that's okay". When they kill stuff "It's dead, it has to be." with desperation or "I hope it's dead" type things. It's great.

Do all the voice's get the same lines for each attitude, or is their variance in that?

She can teleport and shoot in the same turn because gently caress you with a chainsaw!"

There's nothing tactically interesting about any of them, it's just a matter of hoping the RNG decides to let you live another turn.

Ehh... codices I find to not be too difficult. When you come on a group, grenade, like everything else, and when they split up have a gunslinger pick 'em off.

Gunslingers seem to be more or less a hard counter to cloning codices. Face off, lightning hands, quick draw. Doesn't matter if they split into two or three, you can still shoot all of them.

Game is great mechanically, but holy poo poo did they even QA this thing?

That's the really weird thing though. I have had no bugs or crashes and no glitches either, having played the game for almost 20 hours. The worst thing I get is bad FPS at scene transitions, especially the beginning of cutscenes, but the game itself runs very smoothly and apart from the camera during the alien activation having been wonky and sometimes just going black I've had zero problems.

However, for a friend of mine, this game has been a bug and glitch-fest, doing weird stuff with LOS and the FOW and activations, and really weird things with vipers when they try to tongue grab troopers, like the shifting several spaces and a floor or two when it is successful and stuff like that.

Really weird that it would be that different.

Okay so do we have a list of Things You Should Know?

Because there are a few, things like;

-You can use the Evac option after a dash.

- You can hover over the red down/green up arrows on a soldier's name to see the status effects currently in play on that unit.

- Activating a Battle Scanner/Scanning Protocol on a Retaliation Mission will immediately uncover and activate every hidden unit (Faceless and buried Chryssalid) around.

- In that vein, as well as the Faceless activating when all enemies are dead, they will ALSO activate if the only enemies left alive are Shutdown mechanical enemies. I found this out to my cost when Haywire Protocoling a Heavy MEC as my last action of the turn.

- ADVENT Trooper Corpses are not to be sold because they're necessary for upgrades.

- You need to research the Skullmining project in the Proving Grounds before you can use the Skulljack on non-Objective enemies.

- Disorientation, from any source (Flashbangs, Insanity, Capacitor Discharge) interrupts any ongoing psychic effects like zombies or mind control. Jury's out on Codex rifts because I haven't tried it.

- Setting fire to an Archon after Blazing Pinions has been fired but before the attack lands will stop it ever landing.

- There's no warning for when Hacked units will revert to the enemy side. And they get a turn as soon as they do. Keep your pet robots at a distance.

- Things that reduce the Avatar Count (except assaulting Avatar facilities), in story order: Retreiving the Blacksite Vial, Skulljacking an ADVENT Officer for the first time, Codex Site Mission, ADVENT Forge Mission, Skulljacking a Codex.

- Andromedons killed for the first time during the Enemy Turn will still get back up and punch you that same turn.

- It's entirely possible to fire off Killzone twice if you're using it to ambush a pod. Once on your turn when activating the pod, and again on their turn if they move.

- Spamming the Overwatch key too fast can somehow disable the Overwatch button for the rest of the turn. Jake, game, fix.

In addition I'd also like to know what actions are unavailable under Mind Control because I was most displeased at not being able to use Mark Target with my pet ADVENT Officer.

Sword rangers are hilariously good for killing Codices. I took out a group of 3 during the final mission by throwing a grenade to make them split into 6, then pop Reaper on my ranger and mopping all of them up in a single turn.

I really think they should have put the 4/6-man thing to bed for XCOM2. It had a handwavy reason for existing because of console versions in the first game, but all you have to do for XCOM2 is point at the Avenger Defense missions to show it's perfectly feasible for the game to handle double that.

I think doing away with the original xcom's swarm of soldiers that you took on missions was probably the single best decision EU made.

I just watched some videos of the last XCOM, and it made me realize just how bad the health bars in XCOM 2 are.
Sure, it's more compact, but it's a huge hazzle actually seeing how many pips of health every unit has.

Yah I agree with this a lot. It's way too hard to quickly eyeball how much health something has, and stopping to count pip's when planning your turn isn't exciting.

I guess its functionally the same, but I prefer the feel of having it there with better control. I assume eventually you run out of options to reduce the bar and have to end the game SOMETIME, and I want that, but yeah...

I've been sitting here for 5 mins trying to think of a joke to make but I just realised the animators of Mass Effect already did it for me

So I've finally made it home and opened up Steam, but XCOM 2 has been sitting at 97% with no change. The download window says it has .6 GB left to download, but it ain't downloading. I can press Play, but it just brings up a window that says "Ready to launch in X" seconds and keeps counting up.

Do I need to verify the cache; delete and start over (which is going to fuuuuuuck my bandwidth for the month) or is there something else going on?

The Avatar project is a lot easier to handle when you realize that allowing it to go into countdown mode makes your actions that set it back do so even further back than normal, allowing you to get extra mileage out of every setback.

The chance of getting one seem pretty low (I'd say it's around 15% mark), but it has the potential to make some really broken characters.

Nah you're not. Its 100% guaranteed as long as that soldier has a promotion left. What's random is when they get it, but they will get the free perk. It totally does make some broken fun characters though.

AFAIK, every soldier gets one bonus skill, on one of their level ups. If you build it when one of your guys is a Major, then they're guaranteed to get it on their final promotion.

You still do want to build it early, because faster healing is really really useful, and getting some high-level skills early can be a gamechanger, but you're not permanently missing out on anything by putting it off for a little bit.

Are you sure? I'm fairly certain I have at least one character that made it to Colonel without getting a bonus skill.

The AWC is great. I have a Ranger with Kill Zone from the AWC and Bladestorm, and she single-handedly mops up entire Chryssalid packs. Shotgun blast on approach, any that survive that meet the sword. She has a Superior Scope and an +Aim PCS (which also seems to affect the sword?), so she is a goddamn surgeon with that shotgun. And a Superior Expanded Mag for even more Kill Zone. Also carries AP ammo and Rapid Fire to serve as the designated Sectopod fucker-upper.
