Or are they supposed to wake up at some point and I just got hosed by the RNG?

You can revive them, if you leave them on an evac mission they get captured and you'll eventually get a mission to rescue them.

If they're bleeding out there's a timer for that!

Gotta med them back up afaik. Always bring a medkit or two for revival, if not healing. Later you get the 'more bleedouts' perk too, and saving your troops xp is a big deal.

This is a brilliant mod that stries a nice balance with timers... it's such a simple idea hat I think it has a lot of merit. Basically as long as your team is still concealed, the timer won't tick down. It's only after enemies are alerted to your presence that you have a time limit.

It's frankly an elegant solution to the issue, and I'm sorta amazed it wasn't a default feature.

Not really? This encourages you to play sneaky stealth game until you're really close to the objective, then ambush the nearest group and tackle the objective with way less time pressure - but more tedium slowly sneaking your whole squad to that point.

I had a lot of really unpleasant experiences with the core game, but very very few were ever caused by timer pressure that I didn't inflict on myself by dawdling or pushing over-aggressively (a handful of times I did get hosed by a late move reveal, but hey, that's what scanner grenades and protocol are for).

Although these little glitches would be much less painful-funny and more funny-funny if they didn't come with the potential for wiping half your squad due to LoS activation issues :eng99:

Friends don't let friends skulljack early. It's a huge trap for first runthroughs. Codecis are so much easier with tons of abilities and T3 gear.

Codices suck, but XCOM 2 is really good.

I seriously never got a chance to see what those things can do, because I just hit them with overwhelming force every time I encountered one. I think my first one actually decided to spawn in next to my sword Ranger and got Bladestormed for the trouble. Then I shoved a Rapid Fire down its throat.

Well only on a mission where you have to extract. If it's a kill everything one then it's just very annoying but yeah I've had a baton guy be responsible for my two worst mission performances just cause he sprinted through my overwatch fire out of the fog and hit my specialist who has all the med packs (most of the time, you don't need em, but when you do you really need them).

I think I'm going to try a lot more hunker down and a lot less overwatch on campaign #2. Overwatch blows.

Does hunker down still work if you get flanked and/or meleed?

Great!
If it works as it did in Enemy Unknown, it does not, as it doubles your cover bonus, and you don't have cover versus flanks, and it doesn't apply in melee.

My worst overwatch so far has been we were all in concealment and overwatching. I shot a rocket at a group of three Vipers.
Another group spawns and ALL my shots are done at those. Then the rocketed group moved, after we'd all shot. So incredibly irritating.

To follow it up I then missed 4 94% attacks on one of those vipers. Aaaahhh.

I honestly have overwatched like 5% of the time I did in XCOM 1. I use it to set up the concealment ambush, but otherwise I'm barreling towards an objective all the time and running and gunning it, and everyone has more abilities that seem to be better to be using all the time. Playing the non-timed missions and realizing how much slower things go with overwatch creeping was a revelation.

Research "Resistance Comms," build a Comm facility inside your base, staff it. You might need more than one if you want to cover the globe.

Anyone else sort of weirded out Flight seems to have been cut as a mechanic? Archons/Gatekeepers float just off the ground and when you MC them theres no way to lift them off to fly deliberately (Archons kinda do with the Pinion attack but immediately track back to the ground). No flying armor either.

Really weird coming off of EW with Seekers/Drones/Floaters/H. Floaters/Cyberdiscs/Archangel/Hover Shivs.

I had a Codex take cover right next to my Specialist early in a Retaliation mission. She was right there, what was I supposed to do, not skulljack her?

I dominated an Archon. He could barely hit the enemies I pointed him at (another archon and a codex) but he served me well as a lure that prevented other aliens from targeting my troops.

Sadly, I lost my best sniper that mission, but recovered the body before we blew up the site. As thanks for helping me out, I let the Archon live.

Turn timers are only a problem if you suck at the tactical game, and can't take out pods efficiently.

All the strats from EU/EW apply to XCOM2. Grenades to take out cover. Always go for the guaranteed kill, not whittle away at a stronger enemy (unless you can take them out with 2/3 soldiers in 1 turn). Flashbang/debuff what you can't kill. And use concealment over cover (as in, hiding out of LOS, not the beginning of mission concealment).

The smug of this post is hilarious.

I have no real problem in EW/LW on Impossible with creeping and cover. That's fine because I can take 40 turns. When I have three pods all activate at once, 6 turns total, and have to cross the map... that's difficult, if not legitimately impossible. If this is a challenge you do not "suck at the tactical game", it's that the tactical game is significantly different when under the pressure of a timer and there are some scenarios that are either unwinnable outright OR unwinnable without significant cost in manpower.

I didn't mind the tier 2, and while I love the glowy lines on tier 3, overall it looks too clean, shiny, and not bulky enough for what I like. Also while I like how the plasma beam look now, seriously its super cool, the guns themselves are rubbish. I hope more cosmetic mods come sooner. :v:

No I have the tech 2 weapons, the tech 3 I have to research still. Can't remember which month I'm in now, I've been delaying the black site assault on purpose but I'm thinking I've done too much of that because I have only 3 PIP left on the Avatar project. I'm not sure but I think knocking back the Avatar Project progress reduces enemy pod strength. Might be my imagination.

It WOULD be cool if that was a feature. I know destroying alien bases not only takes pips off the doom counter but slows the rate of new pips showing up for a while. I think it even resets Dark Events for the month.
