Sylphosaurus posted:Yeah, a lot of players really need to learn when it's time to cut your losses and evacuate but I guess it goes against the whole "must ace all missions " mindset that seems to be pretty common. Annoyingly, the one time this campaign where I went "well this is hosed, time to go" was a VIP escort mission where I couldn't just EVAC. I might have lost everyone, but the alien AI bugged out and all of them stopped moving. They wouldn't even scramble-on-reveal That's how I managed to skulljack a Codex, and defeat the Avatar. Cheesy as all hell, but the game owed it to me for putting the objective all the way across the map guarded by enormous blocks of HP. Hit a pair of Archons with the vortex ability and both hist procced Insanity, which both procced Mind Control (and damage because I have the skill that makes Insanity do damage). This has saved my bacon a few times, let me tell you! Psi Operatives are an immense force multiplier, the game ramps up difficulty enough that you pretty much always want the ability to take over at least some types of enemies. Also, once aliens that spray acid everywhere start showing up, having a soldier with the passive ability to neutralize elemental attacks is amazing.

Psi-ops in general are loving amazing and have a power for literally any situation. And the damage they do scales with their amp. So endgame you have multiple guarenteed sources of damage on one trooper that ignore all armor, and Psi-Lance does 10-14 damage in a long rear end line which is ridiculous. Then you can use fuse to blow up a roof and drop an enemy for fall damage, or to wipe out their cover. And don't even get me started on Domination, aka get a free meme beacon/broken alien ability. Like shield trooper to give your dudes ablative 5 HP, or Mark to give your dudes a huge aim bonus, or everything an Andromedon can do.

Having a strange problem with one/a combination of the three mods I'm running, TimerTweaks, Free Camera Rotation, or Strip Primary Weapons. Oftentimes when I finish a mission and get past the post-mission stats, to where you'd normally see your soldiers and pick promotions, I get a zoomed-in view of the bottom left section of the Avenger. I can't do anything from here, I have to quit and restart the game, reloading from the last turn of the mission, and hope that it works. Anyone seen this?

Holy poo poo did they buff explosives in this game. There are no downsides to killing using explosives anymore, they shred armor, grenadiers add huge AOE and range, goddamn. Running around with 2 grenadiers + exo suit + rocket gives me 8 explosives to use with just 2 units, and each explosive is the equivalent of an XCOM1 rocket. Insanely good.

You can also use specialty grenade for even more fun. I quite like the Incendiary grenades for their massive AoE that hurts more than a plasma and gives burning. gently caress Chrysalids, cleanse it with fire.

Is anyone else having the faceless just randomly turn and swipe your guys? I usually ignore the civvys for the aliens, but i was in the middle of a firefight with a few troopers and he just spawned. Nobody was near him, enemies were still alive. E: Also I kind of like having my blokes get grabbed by the snaketits because the damage is poo poo and it takes the snaketits out of the fight until i'm ready to deal with it, poisons way more annoying.

Oh, boooo. I just lost a campaign that I was doing great on, minimal wounded, no deaths. I lose it because with one turn left I didn't realize that going to the front of a computer I'm supposed to hack into is NO GOOD, since I guess it was facing a square diagonal to it. I didn't have enough turns to get to the back of the computer so gently caress me, mission failed.

Two questions: 1. Is there a time limit on the Blacksite mission? 2. How worried should I be that the Avatar countdown is already at 5 pips and I don't even have a Psi Operative yet? Time to panic?

Wow I'm getting some utterly insane LoS issues in an extraction mission. I had sight on a stun lancer, I bring up my ranger to a diagonally adjacent tile and he completely disappears. After my turn finishes he reappears and runs into the corner of a room. I go to kill him, and it activates a pod through a fully solid wall with no windows or breaks. Next turn, the pod comes through the solid wall and kills me.
