But seriously now, I play with a bunch of supports and all of them are more or less proficient at playing mages and midlaners. The most aggro ones are especially good at that, even. I can't even imagine a support that just can't handle a solo lane existing outside silver and bronze.

The transferral rate between mid and sup has gotta be like 90% or so, because the only thing that is unique to mid is getting CS. In purely anecdotal terms, all the good aggro supports I've played with (who can play poo poo like annie, velkoz, zyra with proficiency) could also mid either well enough for their tier or just as well as they supported. If you can't do at least that, you should probably stick to the more passive supports to learn the role or abandon it entirely to  at full time midding or topping.

Whenever I picked Jungle first and Top/Support 2nd, it'd be a 50/50 between first and second role. I switched to Jungle/Mid, for something like a 80/20 split.

The League University series tournament had a Heimer mid go ZZTop into Banner of Command. Basically ignored the enemy and just chipped towers down until the enemy dived out of desperation. It was beautiful.

You should try Vel'koz as well, he can 100-0 the other laner at any point past 6, and has lower mana costs and better base damage with AP!

I've been waiting 30 minutes for a game at Silver 1 two instant queue pops, both have people that dont ready up 3 minutes later, queue pops, get in lobby, go through 5 bans, 6th person doesnt ban, back to queue for 5 minutes, restart queue three queue pops later, get into lobby, go through all bans, then last pick on other side doesn't lock in champ 5 more minutes in queue, nothing good job riot game

If you really want to snipe kills and piss everyone off as support, look no further than Lissandra and Illoai. Beefy sponges that require relatively little itemization to deal obnoxious damage. If you aren't confident in your ADC, they are amazing picks since late game Liss can 2 shot ADCs and bottom laners still don't know how to handle real pressure from Illoai. Recently, I've been maining Gailo, and he works amazingly with the zz/banner support combo. He really struggles with being mana starved until you can get his chalice item, which is usually after 10 minutes thanks to maxing the support and vision item first, but after that, you are basically a killing machine. They need to change his debonair splash though, since he's drinking a mana potion, and it mocks me with the knowing wink of, "yeah, his mana regen is poo poo. Better build for it, we won't even pretend to work on his early game problems now that mana pots are gone."
