actually, yeah, I am a little mad
My friend came over to help work the light controls and diagnose things. Refresher on what's wrong:
when the parking lights are on, one of the bulbs doesn't light:

When the hazards or left turn signal are on, the off bulb still flashes.

The Toyota next to me seems to be just staying parked for the winter, and parked 3 inches from the white line, making it even worse than before to open my door.
Let's just say I got more familiar with the front and rear jacking points on a late 90s Corolla.

Given the fact that the bulb flashes, I was expecting to measure voltage getting to the bulb.
I pulled the plugs off and measured at the connectors. There's only 2 wires feeding the out bulb. When the turn signal is on, I can see voltage across the two wires in the plug, same as the other bulb.
So under flashing/turning, power comes to the bulb, and the bulb (which is single filament) works.

When only the parking lights are on, no voltage across the plug for the off bulb, but there is for the other bulb. So pretty conclusively not a wiring problem downstream of the plug.
FC thread suggested rebuilding the lighting switching at the steering column, so I think that'd be next.

At this point, we were running late, so we went for a joyride. Except the battery was flat from sitting and our testing shenanigans. Nothing turned at all.

Jumped the battery and went on a fun ride on roads mostly free of salt dust.
We stopped at Autozone after dark to buy a new battery. Replacing the battery wasn't quite as hard as on the Z06, but it was still a loving ordeal.
In the Z06, there was very little space around the battery, but it would have pulled out very easily with a strap, if the battery'd had one.
In the 348, there's a lot of frame and delicate electrics around the battery tray.

This is a shot of the new Optima after we'd lowered it into place:

Getting the older M24 out was a comedy of obstructions. First, I brought my basic socket set, which was missing the 1/4" drive and extension.
There's a wide L-bracket at the bottom squeezing the battery inside the tray. I couldn't reach that with just the 3/8" drive.
I had to squeeze fingers down the sides of the tray and lift the battery up onto the L-bracket.

2nd: You can't see it, but there's a diagonal frame member in the lower left that barely gives you enough clearance to slip the corner of the battery past.
In fact, you have to push the battery right into the fiberglass wall of the tray to get that clearance.
I hauled it up past the frame member but just didn't have the strength to lift it under the bodywork to clear the tray.
After several tries, we gave up, and I took off one of my shoelaces to loop around the battery. We managed to shimmy the looped shoelace down in there.
I put my glove on, looped up some of the slack in the shoelace, and managed to lift the battery much more easily. Easily enough to run into the corner of the rear bulb cover.

3rd: Ok, fine. We unscrewed the rear cover. You can see it off in the above picture.
Lift again. Oh, now we're actually banging into the wiring going into the bulb socket.
So we unplug the leftmost sockets, put the bulbs in our pockets, and tuck the sockets over the top of the rear light assembly where there's some space.
Now we can clear the battery tray, but moving the battery right runs into the newly painted fiberglass exhaust cover.
At this point, we're wondering if this is even the right way to remove the battery, but we're way too deep to not finish.

4th: we pray the battery doesn't leak, rotate it after we lift it out some, still run into the exhaust cover some, and...
at this point, 2 Autozone employees walk out of the store and start asking us "what year is that?!" over and over.
They can't see us struggling with the battery at first, so I forgive them. But they walk over and see us hunched over and clearly straining to just keep the battery in place.
One jerk still keeps asking. I grunt out "we're getting the battery out right now."
The other guy steps up and helps hold onto the battery while we finish scraping it clear of the cover. You can see where the fiberglass is frayed open in the pic.

Ok, so we have the old battery out. In the store, the clerk asks, what car?
"Ferrari."
"What car?"
"Ferrari."
He blinks and opens up the battery lookup application.
"What kind of car do you have?"
"A 348."
"Ohhh, I thought you were just kidding. We don't even have Ferraris in the system. Did you drive it here?"
"Yeah."
At this point, the clerk just runs out the door and (as he later told us) took a bunch of pictures of it and of himself posing with it.

The M24 in stock has handles, but is slightly longer, which I don't want given how tight space is.
I settle for the Optima, which is lower, slightly shorter, and the same width all the way up. Dropping it back in is cake. The Optima is squeezed front and rear by the L-bracket same as before. Not too worried about the batterry tipping left to right. We take a minute to figure out how to route the battery cable to the slightly different post positions. The lower battery is putting the positive harness loom right onto the sharp edge of fiberglass tray wall. I still need to put some sort of edge guard there.
We put the bulbs and sockets back into place. Test the lights, no problem. Screw the bulb cover back on. The car fires up really strong. And we're finally done.
25 min to get the battery out. 15 min to buy the new battery and put it in. Would have been annoying in warm weather, but worse just above freezing.
I drive my friend back to my place (he rode his bike) and drive him and the bike home in the Charger. Wouldn't you know it, the Charger didn't even struggle like it usually does. Fired up on the first try.

Random encounters:

One guy pulled up beside us with his phone already out.
"Hey, is it ok if I take some pics?"
"Yeah, no prob!"
"Is that a real Testarossa?"
"No, it's only the 348; it's a 8-cylinder."
"Oh, it's still really cool. I had a poster of the Testarossa up on my wall when I was a kid!"

Another car honked a couple of times when it was behind us after we left Autozone. I was like, poo poo, did we break or lose something? They pull up alongside.
"Yo, nice car. Do you own it?"
"Yep, it's mine"
"That's an awesome car."

Todos:
- battery tray edge guard
- fix clock time
- figure out a battery maintenance solution

Would this be safe for a couple hours at a time?:

Inverter takes 12V 10A max, puts out 120V 100W (?). Tender takes 120V 230mA, puts out 13.5V ~1A.

e: put a split piece of rubber wiper fluid hose over the fiberglass edge, which you can make out under the looms:

In the back, you can see that diagonal member that got in the way. Doesn't look like it here cuz the Optima is shorter.

I should have taken pictures of how those all sat before, because I couldn't find a good orientation that didn't lead to some sort of uncomfortable looking placement of the looms.

Onto much more serious matters. Today was joyride part 2. Had an amazing time running the tunnels with the exhaust at earsplitting volumes.
Some guy in an old Caravan U-turned after he saw me and asked how much I wanted. He seemed ready to deal, so I offered to pull over in the next open spot.
It was a small steep parking lot, and as I pulled into it, BANG.

I'm still sobering up over this damage I did to the poor car. That fiberglass rocker panel isn't too expensive, and maybe the shop will be able to patch it and just respray. I'll take it in tomorrow morning.

Hey, buddy, sweet car. I want to buy it. Just pull into this parking lot around the corner. Real easy to get into.

When I pulled out, I went perpendicular back onto the road, and could feel but not hear the skidplates doing their job. Shoulda done that going up.

Drove it to the shop this morning. Didn't think it rained, but a lot of roads were wet without any snow on the sides. SALTTTT

Asked them to hose the car down if possible.

Shop said it'd be quick turnaround to patch and respray. Will consult me; depending on how well the paint matches, I might go for respray of all the black lower trim.

That moto guy's old fiberglass helmet and googles are cool as poo poo.

Speaking of fiberglass, I got pics back from the shop.

Rocker panel off, showing some really minor denting to the metal:

No idea how they let the camera's settings get so off.

The sanded and patched rocker:

Inside of the struck corner:

Paint condition before respray:

The fiberglass wheelwell liner, whose corner got crazed as well:

A crease and curve in the seamweld covered by the rocker panel:

The bent doesn't seem consistent with what I heard or the damage on the rocker, but I asked the shop.
The crease is pretty deep:

Finished product:

Paint looks great, which undoubtedly won't match the gray rear lower bumper trim:

Notice the blue FJ in the back in for some more work.

I haven't heard the bill yet; but I think it's gonna be higher than quoted, given the work to the wheelwell liner.

I still have to decide whether to get everything else painted to match, but might slow play them since I need my garage spot to throw on the Charger's skid plate, not to mention the snow we're getting here means I can't really drive it back from the shop until it's clear again.

From the comments, the 355 fit overlaid onto a Fiero:

From this angle, the kit looks pretty convincing. Maybe less so once the wheels are tucked inside. The 348/355 are only 3" longer wheelbase than a Fiero.

Got back and put into storage the stock exhaust, which I'll sell with the car.

Two pieces mated by some weird metallic sealant:

The front piece sits at a funny angle, with those tubes that join to the cats mating at 45deg.
Each half weighs about 25lbs, so the new exhaust takes a decent chunk of weight off the back of the car.

There's a bit of gold tinge to those exhaust tips.

Drove it back from the shop this morning. Completely dry, though a bit of salt dust remaining on the road.

I didn't think to get a shot of the side vs rear black trim color difference until I'd come up to my garage, so this is the best I can do:

The shop put a Griot's black trim polish on the side face of the rear trim, and it's dark enough to match the side.

It's really nice to have the work come out better than new -- the shop gave me a labor discount, and all told, the patch and paint was $480. Even so, I haven't decided if I want to disclose that repair, well outside of here anyways.

One more size comparison pic:

It's really not that extreme in real life. The 348 is 5" wider than that Corolla, but it doesn't look it thanks to how much further the Corolla's trunk pushes out.
