The overlap is extreme enough that light to gravely is possible no matter what % you lost. Its just more likely to be light the less damage you take. Too big? That is a preference thing.

1> It is actually possible to solo Alien Facility Sabotage missions with a ranger all by themselves. Bring a meme beacon just in case. Also bring a plasma grenade so you can make yourself a doorway out and drop the evac right outside. Jane Kelly did one for me, but didn't have the plasma grenade. She ended up triggering a sectopod outside when she planted the X4. Hunkered down, and the sectopod conveniently walked through the wall, making her a door, and missed its shot. She took a shot from Overwatch on the way to evac, but made it out. Mission Successful, 0 aliens killed.

2> I had a mind controlled Armadon duck down to clear a line of fire for my distant sniper taking a shot. Awwww.

3> Had a Psychic get blasted so hard her get-out-of-death-free auto-stasis kicked in. Came back lightly wounded, 2 days out. It's bizarre. Love that skill though.

Why's that? I was hating it over the weekend (you can see the various fits I threw in this very thread) but all of a sudden I hit a stride with it and I love the hell out of it.

I didn't play much Enemy Within, though, and I played Enemy Unknown long enough ago that maybe I don't remember it as being as good as it is.

Has there been much agreement yet on how the first couple floors should probably look in the Avenger? I still haven't really worked out what the priorities are, except kind of wanting to get the Psi stuff up and running before even Mag Weapons.

Today I learned that frag grenades are bugged and may or may not make enemies unable to be targeted if you blow their cover up with them.

This was not a good lesson to learn against sectoids and codices!

The start of a campaign on legendary is just so rough, goddamn. I'm doing the same thing as I did in EU/EW and making sure I can get out of gatecrasher with 4 healthy squaddies ready to roll. Furthest I've made it so far is the first retaliation, which I entered with 3 rookies and specialist. It didn't go well.

So uh, did they change Classic in EU?

When EU came out, I breezed through Classic. Got all my satellites up early, covered 2-3 continents quickly, lived the dream. Had the entire world covered by midgame, which left me rolling in money/scientists/engineers going forward.

Trying it again now, and I instantly gain 3-4 panic with countries I don't protect, meaning I get maybe two chances total to keep them from going full panic. Oddly enough, in EW I only get 2-3 panic on Classic if I don't choose them.

Is it actually different, or is it just my imagination?

Also gently caress the Zhang missions, oh my god.

It really doesn't let up after that. I'd say you don't get the necessary power spike until you hit mag weapons and you'll need the alloys to make them

also lol if you get one of the hacking missions as your 2nd mission where a reinforcement drop shows up with 2 stun lancers which aren't supposed to show up until the 2nd or 3rd month at the earliest.

guess they forgot that with their balancing of the enemy tech

the randomness is a tad bullshit, I mapped out a recent mission and I would have had to sprintrun 6/8 turns to get all my units out, while ignoring the objective completely. Two turns for fighting and recovery is not fun.

They can pop up in the Black Market, at the Resistance Base (both of these refresh every supply drop) and as Guerrilla Ops rewards. They can also be recovered from Geoscape events sometimes, iirc.

So I mind-controlled two gatekeepers in my avenger defense, used them to raise a zombie horde, and then clustered the zombies and blew them up for kicks before taking off. Turns out that friendly zombies count as soldiers for mission stats. 22 dead soldiers.

The only effects I'm aware of that don't last only till the end of turn or have a cost in action points (which is indicated when the effect is put on you) is burning and poison. And of those two if they aren't permanent (I've always had my soldiers die or get cured before it ran out) the random damage aspect would fit well with not letting you know that information.

Blacksite down! With the skulljack finished too that's two pips off. About to take two off from a facility as well, then expand and take out another (though there's only one pip on that one right now). There are still no missions or events to gain intel, just scanning at hq. The avatar project has more pips than the only facilities in existence have put forward by like five. Does it just get a pip a month? I've countered the dark events that keep popping up to add two to it.

my setup was this for the first two floors

guerrilla - power - proving
Adv. com. - workshop - psionics

the only big dick play I advise is rushing and upgrading a workshop early in that exact spot, as it's two free engineers when you need them most. very, very high value thing to get.

The only thing EW has over this is Punch Mecs. I miss them every time I sword someone with my ninja.

But the anti-turtle timers are a legit good addition and I am glad they are there to stop people from overwatch creeping. Because that's boring and dumb.

If the timers are legit giving you constant issues that is the game telling you to turn the difficulty down until you understand the mechanics better.

It gets a pip a month as long as facilities are still active on the map. When a brand new facility gets built, it adds pips equal to that facility's pips (1,2 haven't seen 3 yet). Destroying that facility will set the clock back by the same number of pips, so you want to crush them as soon as they pop up if possible, otherwise you're automatically getting behind on the clock.

Story missions (skulljacking, blacksite, codex) will take pips off the clock, and pips can get added by dark events. But you're generally fighting a losing battle. You can make that battle ridiculously slow though by knocking out facilities as soon as they're built.
