The high risk high reward thing is how I look at swords. They can definitely put out damage, but doing so leaves you vulnerable unless you have one or two perks that require kills. And your dash attack requires you to be next to an enemy and potentially activating another pod. Shotguns retain their usefulness of not needing to leave cover and being able to over watch. My ranger still blasts dudes, just not as often. And Rules of NatureCom is incredible fun too.

If you're using shotguns like that, why not just use a rifle instead?

The risk is in activating another pod as you dash up.

I've edited swords to have +8 Hit at T2, and +15 at T3, as well as +1 damage at those tiers. They also pierce AND shred 1 armour per tier.

To compensate, Reaper now lowers your damage by 2 per kill.

I love all the rebalance mods in the workshop right now by people who don't understand the game balance in the first place. There's multiple mods to make pistols of all things more dangerous.

I find my snipers falling off as well. Especially once you start giving your Gunslingers Bluescreen rounds, they become so much better at killing mechs (I've been killing sectopods with one acid bomb and a lightning hands-quickdraw combo)! Fan Fire with bluescreen rounds is 18-32 damage to mech units alone with beam pistols. :v:

Everyone else can kill biological enemies with some grenade support... hell, I've barely been fielding rangers lately despite how amazing they are. I just can't find the space! (Current fav squad loadout: Psi op, 1-2 specialists, 2 grenadiers, 1 gunslinger, 0-1 rangers depending on which specialists are available)

Also I am so in the swords need a buff camp. It's far too easy to stack crit on a shotgun for rules of nature to be worth it in the late game. Even a fusion blade can't compete with 12+ damage crits all the time, can it?

I equip snipers with a Scope for AIM, a repeated for HAHA EXECUTE, a Perception PCS mod and Talon rounds for comedy big damage crit action.

Because a Rifle doesn't hit for 15 damage crits with 100% hit rate and a 50% crit rate at point blank range

That's not what you use conceal for.

This is the first mod with high-quality original assets, and is being continually updated. This guy's work is incredible and literally everyone should have this mod. He's already added like 5 new things and the game has been out for a week. Can't wait to see what he comes up with next.

Phantom lets your dude start concealed at the start of every mission. Concealment just means you can do it later, which if you're actively engaged means gently caress all because detection ranges are like 12 tiles in range, or it grants you +25 Aim/Crit once a mission, which you're giving Shadowstep up to do it

but they allow your squad to overwatch ambush so much better... not to mention simple sniper pulling into overwatch traps. Or getting civs in ret missions...

Conceal is good, guys. Also phantom from AWS seems to be broken. Does anyone else have that problem?

Exactly. Phantom is the same as conceal, except that with conceal you decide when to use it. If you always use it the first ambush, then it becomes the same except that your guy gets to participate in that ambush, and you don't lose it instantly if you are in an exposed spot.

It's 100% an inferior version.

They are both amazing. Conceal is just a more flexible phantom with some niche extra uses. Its just phantom is against a garbage skill while conceal is vs the other best skill in the tree. I take both but you can get by with just phantom and run and gun if that's your style.

Hello, fellow COMMANDERS!

I've found a cheap STEAM key and dived into the new Alien menace. As I've been playing the franchise since its inception I started with "veteran". I abandoned the first game after I had learnt the new mechanics. I restarted, tried my luck at "veteran" again and realized it was a cakewalk. Because the stupid Aliens don't move. At all. Neither do they shoot. I think it might have something to do with my concealed Ranger (the perk that let's you tay hidden even after the squad has been detected). As I didn't want to wade through several thousands of posts: Is anybody else experiencing this glitch?

Phantom let's you stay concealed and always start concealed. Conceal let's you conceal once at will. Both are good, both do the same thing?, just differently.

I'm not sure what you guys are expecting? It's the very first skill. Of course it's not going to be as powerful. And it's still very useful if you can kill the pods without your full firepower. Advance scouts are extremely useful for going fast!

I subscribed to his patreon, he's really talented. He's stated he's working on a military cap next, which sounds neat and appropriately revolutionary.

See, for me, the grenade volley plus Killzone is why my Sniper became my top K. With a scope and extended mag, her Killzone shots rarely missed and the grenade weakened enemies enough that those shots became kills. Combined with AP ammo and the fact that she regularly had the highest hit chance and her kills skyrocketed.

Um, no? A concealed scout lets you cruise around the map in essentially total safety and always initiate with say, the one two combo of a grenade launcher strike and killzone.

The +2 sword will help you through the early game, so it's hardly garbage, and if you have multiple phantoms it sucks rear end.

My basic point though is that you are giving up something substantial by not picking conceal, so it can't be assumed every ranger has Run and Gun.

One of the buttons should be "Fire Pistol" on screen when in range to actually fire it. Click that. Similarly there is one for Pistol Overwatch.

I use both Phantom and Conceal because a stealthy scout owns bones and being able to do it again in case of a gently caress-up/emergency shotgun application also owns bones.

I'm only currently using this, the quiet bradford mod, the camera mod, and the muton/SMG long war studios mod, pretty bare bones thus far. Might consider the +1 enemy pod mod depending on how my latest campaign goes.

Do you anticipate Avenger defense missions? If so, you may want to keep your spare Tier 2s around to help your extras in that. Otherwise yeah sell 'em.

They were replying to someone who doesn't seem to understand what you use phantom for. I.E. Scouting, not initiating overwatch traps.
