hey friends! what's your opinion on LINUS TECH TIPS? this channel on youtube has been my new go-to poo poo-to-watch-while-eating. I like it, but I wonder what's the general consensus in YOSPOS?

he had one series of videos where he decided to cool a room full of computers by running a bunch of water pipes around the room to water cool them all and then run the pipe outside to dump the waste heat. but it turned out most of the heat just radiated back into the room via the copper pipes before it even got outside

they had all their data on a single server with no backups and it died the server consisted of 3 striped RAID5 arrays made up of 24 SSDs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gSrnXgAmK8k linus tech tips is basically what happens when you give that really over-enthusiastic kid at geek squad a bunch of money

Roargasm posted:it was 3 hardware raid5s striped into a software raid5 iirc Isn't a Windows striped volume pretty much RAID 0? You are certainly not getting any parity with 3 source volumes. I guess Linus sperged out comparing performance between the options, does anyone just stop at NTFS named mounts? edit: I cannot find any material anywhere recommending anything other than RAID 0,1,10 on SSDs. They would have to be really expensive controllers to match raw SSD performance. MrMoo fucked around with this message at 02:54 on Feb 15, 2016 |

i was walking through macy's yesterday and there was a fat goon walking out wearing a linus tech tips shirt and i started laughing because it reminded me that in almost every video he makes he somehow manages to break something expensive but the 'one computer that hosts 7 gaming virtual machines with their own video cards' was pretty good
