I privately get kinda grumpy when people talk about how ugly okuyasu is or whatever in the manga but he doesn't seem too far off here. Some people actually believe that as opposed to the actual thing where he has to give up his family life and bringing her up as a proper father so that he can deal with Stand poo poo, who obviously attract each other and protect her from that world as a whole. Her grievances with her father are totally genuine and valid, but it's another "fandom is canon" thing JoJo fans have going on.

Jotaro is a good person but a bad parent, which I feel is an angle that doesn't see too much play in the popular arts. Typically the Venn diagram of characters who are bad parents and bad people is a circle.

Even then, it's hard to say he's a bad parent. Bad parents don't sacrifice growing up with their child for their greater good by any means. Bad absentee parents just gently caress off. He had reasons for not even talking about Stands or whatever too, it's too dangerous to leave be and he used other things as cover. It's possibly commentary on the whole salaryman thing too. Work all day and when they come home, the child's already in bed because they've got school in the morning. You wouldn't call them bad parents, they're just not good parents in the ever present interpretation of the term. Not all JoJo dads can be as good as DIO. Jotaro reminds me of my dad. He went away to work a lot too to take care of me. Basically Jotaro is cool and I have sympathy for him; before he lost his Stand he was basically the Speedwagon Foundation's 'Ace' or whatever, and Jotaro always seems like that, despite his gruff personality, he's a good person like other people said, so he doesn't seem like the kind of person who'd go 'Sorry, I can't go fight a Stand today, it's my daughter's Baseball game. Can you send someone else?'
