I think the reason that episode is getting such a positive response is more based on the overall concept, a creature with no self awareness, suddenly (and traumatically) gaining it, along with becoming a human and gaining spontaneous understanding human problems, and the opportunity that that poses as a means of discussing mortality, death, consciousness, futility, etc. Rather than "lol he has a funny name, best ep ever." That said, I totally get how someone could not be a fan of that ep; this whole season has, as someone already said, been hugely different in tone from the original run.

It is the purest distillation of Morgan's themes. Every one of his episodes is basically another way of coming at the same questions.

It's good but at the same time I do feel it could have done a better job of fitting into the series. Stuff like Clyde Bruckman or Jose Chung usually had some sort of mechanism to dissipate or excuse the goofy aspects so as to make it fit better into what is ultimately not a comedy show.

It's the fault of the other episodes being so bad and no fault of the episode itself. Like, Mulder and Scully are kind of characterized differently than in the series around them. Mulder's questioning his job and Scully is actually confident and competent and not crying about her baby. Which is A direction to take for the MS pair on returning work, just not what the other episodes took.

Kill Switch had a lot of potential, but just ends up silly in almost a Lawnmower Man sequel sort of way. Still better than that AI episode from S1 or 2.

'Were' means man. So 'Were-Monster' actually means 'man monster,' which fits perfectly with the episode.

I've said it before (though I know it's a bit of a cop-out): Some people just don't get that episode. Though at least that one guy said he liked all the Morgan eps. Though, in a way, that makes it even more baffling.

This last episode is going to have to give some kind of resolution to their kid, right? Both of them being depressed about losing their boy has been the running theme since the 2nd movie, but they never even hint about trying to find him. Has Will been brought up in every episode of the reboot, except for Were-Man?

Their son is definitely going to be a major role in the finale and the only question is in what context (either he was experimented on and died or actually grew up and now has freaky powers). I'm not really sure how Carter's gonna handle this episode. I'm fully expecting a cliffhanger, but I also fear the pacing's gonna be all over the place. So far, this episode is bound to have: - The stuff about the conspiracy being a different conspiracy all along - Joel McHale showing up again (and hopefully getting written off) - William - Even longer monologues - Cigarette Smoking Man will have to show up again, otherwise what was the point of showing him at the end of the first episode - Miller and Einstein are confirmed to return for the finale, who knows if they'll survive it - Aren't we due Reyes' cameo too? Didn't Gish say she was gonna be in it, or was that called off?

Btw, people who were weirded out about the video montage in the first episode - the first episode of Season 5 had the exact same sort of thing.

It's not the montage that's weird. It's the content. It feels less X-Filesy fun conspiracy stuff, and more legit mentally ill youtuber conspiracy stuff. Which is bad and not fun.

Carter has already said this episode will end on a cliffhanger. He must have made that decision months ago. Either he was supremely confident the new series would be renewed, or he just wanted to be an rear end in a top hat.

I'm enjoying my Season 1 rewatch more than anything else on TV right now. Even if the new episodes had all been poo poo, it would have been worth it because it made me remember how much I loved this show and how good it was. I'm on the Jersey Devil right now.
