I had Blue as a kid but picked Red. This is my first splat fest. Is it just about which team wins more games?

Really wish it didnt cost 30k just to add slots to gear. Splatoon NX will be out before I max out my equipment inventory. I've actually been forced back into participating in Splatfests because of the hundreds of hours it will save me in the long run

alf_pogs posted:splatfests are good for the soul I don't know why i'm still crazy for wanting to play this game with my friends. I don't have 8 friends to fill a private lobby. I would probably just queue up for regular matches with absolutely no reward during splatfest hours. I have friends who legitimately decide to boot the game up once every couple of weeks, see that it is splatfest, and turn the console off because they turned it on to play the game with me. I turn on my nintendo multiplayer game to play with my friends and fill in the rest of the intended game slots with random people. Its like one of those game features in MMORPGS where you can queue up to help random people through low level dungeons for a large exp bonus. Only its so horrendously large of a bonus that you're forced to participate in it before getting to play the game with your friends. So now you're spending an hour doing daily dungeons. Or 3-4 hours playing splatfest in order to get Snails worth the monetary equivalent of thirty turf war matches e: Squad battles were so close. Except frequently I can only get 3 people together so I'm meant to play a 3 on 4 match more often than not. Also my squid ranking is shared so if I have friends who don't play the game very often they get to be destroyed by full enemy squid squads of 4 A/S ranks zolthorg fucked around with this message at 05:40 on Feb 19, 2016 |

Astro Creep posted:You are really hung up on this weird time:snails ratio I play the game basically every day for a half hour even if I can't grab someone to play with me. Its a personal goal to max out all the items even if i'm not caring about rerolling them to have 'optimal stats' because then they'll feel complete, and maybe i'll get a bonus out of it or something in a Splatoon sequel? I also bought every gun even though I don't intend to use half of them. So yes. Time:Money ratios and the fact that snails are an absurdly good time:money ratio is a big deal for me. So of course i'd raise greivances about playing a mode during a short 24h timespan for a dedicated 2-4 hour period (if i can even find the time during whichever weekend) Why aren't splatfests a whole weekend long. Like literally every other online game event like a double experience weekend or a free weekend or a double crates weekend etc? 2-4 hrs over 2-3 days is a much more reasonable time investment. And at the same time there is no reason to not just allow players to play normal turf war and ranked mode. On a screen which already fits Squad Battles Solo Ranked Queue Random Turf War Join a Friend Turf War Private Battles They couldn't just throw the Splatfest option at the top? Half of the costume options in the game are Body/Armor pieces and you're locked into a mono color tshirt and not being able to play the game with your friends for 24 hrs. Its a fun mode for the vocal i'll say majority of players here since you're all relatively skilled at the game and absorb a great time:money ratio out of a 2-4 hr Splatfest grind in a similar manner to the way most of you only play Ranked mode (and play competently) so you get a better time:money ratio out of the higher rewards for ranked mode, reduced timescale for winning matches in under 3 minutes, and higher rewards for higher rankings (meaning that even overtime matches are more efficient than playing turf war). Why am I the only other person talking about this actively in this thread? Everyone else with these grievances just quit playing. They've moved on to other games because there is clearly no intent of the devs to actually fix the Splatfest system, or to allow players who want to play just turf war casually to ever hit level 30 let alone 40 or 50. They'll just keep moving around win rating and popularity rating multipliers and occasionally try dropping big brands like Transformers and Pokemon to try to get hemorrhaging player bases to put the Splatoon disc back in their console. If you queue up for random matches these days you get level 50 players, and players in the high 30s exclusively. Those are the level ranges for Players which play a bunch of Ranked Mode and players which stick to Turf War. They are not the smooth level range from 21 -> 50 that you would expect out of a large varied population of players that is continually being refreshed. If I'm not like you and you're all level 50 or close to it then what do I represent? The phantom fanbase which is waiting for a sequel where you get three goddamn maps in rotation so you don't end up playing on Hammerhead bridge every single night. Or playing "randomly" on map rotation A, A, A, A, B, A, A, A, A, A, B, B, A, B, A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A, A. Or where you can pick the game up once every 2-3 weeks and not randomly find out you can't play with your friends at all that night and you have to try 24 hours later. zolthorg fucked around with this message at 10:05 on Feb 19, 2016 |

zolthorg posted:Ranting You realize the root of your problem is completely optional, right? Give up on buying and maxing out everything including items you never intend to use and suddenly snails and cash are way less important. Play Spatoon when you feel like it. It doesn't need to be a job. Splatfest a fun mode for the majority of us because we find it fun. No one else cares about getting the maximum cash for their time. If the majority of posters in this thread play ranked exclusively these days, which I'm pretty sure isn't true, I'd be willing to bet its just because they prefer the objectives to turf war, want to climb the ranks to S and maybe to fill out the slots on any clothes they actually intend on using. I'm not sure why you're complaining about getting to level 50, either. A player's level means nothing beyond unlocking weapons and even that stops at 20. Is this another weird "max out everything" obsession you have? In turf wars I regularly see players in the entire range from 1-50, especially since Christmas. I'm sorry that you and your friends have lovely luck deciding when to play together, but it's one day out of the month. Play something else and invite your friends to play when you know there isn't a splatfest going on. Hardcordion fucked around with this message at 16:34 on Feb 19, 2016 |
