Fairfield and Vallejo are in commute distance to San Fran and have apartments for under $500 a month. gently caress tech nerds who think they have to live directly in San Francisco, IMO.

I've been watching The Man in the High Castle on Amazon. The premise of the show is The Axis won WW2 and occupy America. I think we're supposed to be shocked by how bleak Japanese San Francisco is, but I find myself wishing it actually happened that way so we wouldn't have to hear about poo poo like this.

I suspect the Ubermensch in here insisting a youth be punished for their mistakes have a much quieter voice on punishing banks for their mistakes even though the importance of punishing the latter is vastly more important to long term economic survival. We should nationalize the banks and create a socialist utopia in which corporate twitter writers still starve and die on the streets, imo

So relatable! I think that's an idea that could "go viral" with the twits and be the next big thing in brand interaction.

Fairfield is really pushing it. You'd need to take a bus to the ferry and then go over, then transfer to another mini bus. Vallejo ain't bad though rents are still over 1k+ last I checked. Though could easily get a roommate to halve it

Alternatively, she could rent a room in a house in San Jose for $500 and commute like the rest of us car-addicted drones. There's lots of far more practical options- -Rent a room for cheap, which I did for many years. Never had a problem with roommates, and you benefit from being able to share stuff in a full-sized house that you might not get in an apartment (like a washer/dryer, or a full-sized kitchen). If she loves baking cupcakes and sipping bourbon so goddamn much she could do it in a far cheaper place surrounded by people that wouldn't mind the house smelling like vanilla extract every evening. -Rent an in-law apartment, which I also did as well. It was cheaper than an apartment of the same size, detached from the main house and quiet. A lot of people built in-law units either to pump up the value of their homes or use the rent money to keep themselves afloat. With the crazy housing market, the only thing you'd really have to worry about is the owner up and selling the property; it was the only reason I moved out of places in the Bay Area. From San Jose she could commute by car on 101 or 280 (traffic blows, but a lot of people live in SJ/work in SF) or take Caltrain into San Francisco. If she could find a place for $500 then she'd be paying a bit more than a third her income in rent, but I suppose it would free up more money for artisanal cupcakes or whatever.

Is she moderately attractive? I couldn't tell from her picture. She may want to consider sex work, such as escorting, domming, sensual massage, etc. This is probably the best (and only) way for a young woman with no skills to survive in a large city.

Have housing prices in the bay gotten that bad? When I lived in Oakland ca. 2008, I had a great place (right on Lake Merritt, gated parking, ~10 min walk to 19th Street BART) that my roommate and I split for $750 each. Is that really so unreasonable now?

For those who say that everyone should earn a living wage, what do you mean exactly? I want all the details for your plan. Who should regulate this? Is it different in every city or state or the whole country? Also, what is the living wage? What should you reasonably be able to afford with this living wage? Do taxes factor into the wage? Do you really think High schoolers, who get their first job flipping burgers for extra money, has to be paid enough to be able to afford a house and car and bills and savings?
