I was kind of thinking wouldn't it be "ironic" for hipsters to just walk around all day hitting themselves in the face with something? Then I realised that's pretty much what they do. Wearing bad clothing, refusing to engage in conversation, or jobs, or society.

Greetings. I am a retarded spawn of social media and other 'tech' jobs that take less skill or talent than being a cashier or janitor. How can I possibly live if I don't live as close to San Francisco as possible???

Jumping into a super strong commitment and a huge amount of rent for a job you have no real experience at is crazy. And so what if you have more than a 30 mile drive to work? Drive 45 miles if it means you aren't starving, it sucks but you wanted a weird job so work for it ffs

EXISTENCE IS PAIN😬
My current employer pays $70,000 starting wage, offers full benefits right out of the gate, excellent job security and a pension. Because a lot of boomer-aged employees (the ones that were careful with money anyway) are currently retiring, they have been hiring a lot of new people.

While there are a few millennials here and there, I'm kind of taken aback at the number who pass the job up outright, or do it for a year and quit (when its the kind of job that gets exponentially better the longer you work there) to go work for a startup. I guess because my job isn't in tech, isn't glamorous, and doesn't let you use your smartphone at work, it seems to be a bad prospect.

Most of our new hires aren't millennials, they're middle aged people who got laid off/aged out of their tech jobs, are 40-55 and have bupkis for retirement. But these guys don't have some unfair advantage over the kids half their age, rather its the practical experience to know what kind of job you can survive in long term. I'm sure a lot of these millennials think they are focusing on following their dream but playing up the whole poverty chic says otherwise. I won't be surprised if in five or ten years some of them come crawling back here worse for wear and 10 years worth of seniority behind people with more common sense.
