I.... Jumped back into EU to play through that a bit while 2 gets fixed up. Had full satellites covering everything but Asia by end of June, which meant who cares what happened to Asia in July, I'd have it fully covered by the end. Had all research done, outside of captures, Had an A Team, and was working on a B Team, everyone was in Carapace/Lasers, and I had the resources to easily get everyone into Titan/Lasers by early August. I had a few troop setbacks, but was largely trucking along, with two main Heavies that could take down anything the game threw at me, while everyone else was slowly making their way to Colonel. Abductions pop up, I don't really need to do any of them, but I figure I might as well do this Moderate one in India for a few more free Engineers. It's the extremely small construction site. Immediately all 14 mutons, and a muton beserker rush out to greet me. Before I can even act, they all throw their grenades at me, bringing my entire team down to 5ish hp, and the beserker runs up and knocks out my main Heavy. The character that's been with me since the beginning of the game, has been in every single mission, and has been the rock of pretty much all my strategies. I can't rez her, since all these other mutons are going to tear up my squad, and I can't even deal with the beserker, so I have to flee. I leave her behind, and get the rest of my squad out of there. I feel terrible, but I figure I'll finish the month, since it's got only a few days left. Get a council mission popup in Egypt. For some reason, despite doing 3-4 Terror Missions in Egypt, putting up a Satellite in Egypt, and doing MULTIPLE UFO takedowns/cleans in Africa, Egypt remains at 2 pips away from full panic. It's barely gone down all game. Council mission is an easy one that's one of the skippable no panic ones, the escort William Thorne or whatever out of the zone. I figure whatever, I might as well throw some rookies at the problem to clear my mind/level them up a bit. Rookies lose. My heads not in the game, and I flub up against the Thin Men. Get hit with the panic hit since I actually took the mission rather then ignored it. Egypt leaves the Council, keeping me from getting my perfect everyone covered game. I don't want to jump back in. I feel so drained by this game right now.

right after i posted my stream i had to do some stuff and everyone bailed haha. I get it, but i'm going at it again and i'm gonna run out and get an energy drink but generally ill be up all night so if you want to see someone terrible play xcom on a difficulty way above his skill level, /id/horsse Hipster Terrorist will be at it again very shortly, and if you like bernie i've starded a goons4bernie steam group for plaing games and watching others play games. I know it sounds lame and all but I want to foster a community around the bernie cult on SA and I like streaming xcom while talking about bernie so http://steamcommunity.com/groups/Goons4Bernie is the page and my stream is technically accessible but will be active again in 10 or so minutes. Promise this will be my last post unless i'm proven wrong in my assumption this will be a afailure.

On the subject of smokes, I've been trying to use them more on legend once I found out they didn't take a grenade slot. They are better than I gave them credit for but I still don't think they are that great compared to other options. The best use I got out of them was throwing them on top of buildings to make low cover positions safer for my squad to fire from. In EW I was a huge proponent of smokes and believed them to be one of the best abilities, but in a lot of stuff in Xcom 2 changed to make them pretty lackluster. The biggest one is probably that the game has shifted from slow advances to faster ones, so generally holding a position isn't something you do often. When you need to advance through the map as fast as you can, spending a turn setting up smoke usually won't benefit you much. Better to invest in something that lets you kill the enemies faster so you can move on to the next pod rather than get in a drawn out firefight. In that sense, a simple grenade for removing cover will be better. They definitely aren't as good of a defensive option as they were in EW either since you can't get the upgrades from the support tree that made them absurdly good. They are also completely outclassed by mimic beacons when it comes to keeping people alive. However those are so broken I feel its unfair to even consider them in the balance of other items right now. Still I think smoke grenades need some kind of buff to keep them from being super niche. My first thought is that throwing a smoke grenade wouldn't cost an action, but that could easily swing them into being overpowered. Recently got started, and holy poo poo, this game barely gives you anytime to breathe. Feels like I get through any given operation by the skin of my teeth. Already lost a few rookies in just over an in game month. My team so far.
