fixed .

It just doesn't feel like the other X series games, at all. X: Beyond the Frontier didn't let you change ships either but it was far and away a better game, and it's 16 years old now.

They still adjusting the turd/polish ratios?
I'll probably get it for the laffs, but until they released rebirth, much of their "expansions" were made by modders; as rebirth is crap, very few, if any, people are modding XR nowadays.
thats probably why updates and expansions are sparse.

I got elite-dangerous but have been clunking around in fallout 4 too much to actually play it.

Should I just uninstall it, or can I get it going and have 'fun?'

Get Albion Prelude as well if you can (half-off on steam right now) but yeah, it's well worth playing.

I played both albion prelude and terran conflict
The easiest way to get started is to make other pilot eject from their super freighters (save and reload if they dont eject)
Usually argon ships are the best to take because its easy to get reputation just by shooting stuff in the terran conflict sectors

Make friends with paranids and use the freighters with only mark 2 trading computer and do sector trading where they need energy cells, Id recommend a list of sectors where energy cell trading is the best but I don't remember off hand
Eventually you can outfit them with mark 3 trading and jump drives and they do universe trading which is free money, if the pilot level is high level they buy drones and jump to safety when being attacked

Also download the pdf map if you want to see all the gates and not have to explore every sector

You can buy jump drives for anything that can carry M containers (which is most ships except M4 and M5)

Once the map is explored you order your ships to jump to whatever sector, its very easy to travel once the map is explored
Just buy explorer software for a 500 speed m5 and map out everything just by ordering it around

Yes but AP won't run without TC.

Edit: They are standalone like Opposing Force was to Half-Life. It's a separate campaign but a lot of the assets come from TC.

Oh ok.

Wow this poo poo is boring. I'm in what I can only assume is the tutorial mission. It's standard escort, but each time I zone into a new sector I'm 28km from the Terran Scabbard I'm supposed to escort, and then enemies spawn near them, and are destroyed by my wingmen before I'm within firing range. Then it's just 10 real world minutes of just tooting along at 121m/s.

What is this?

Whoa, hold on a bit, you might confuse someone who has them on Steam.

On Steam, they're effectively standalone because the Steam distribution of AP contains all the TC files it requires. So you don't need to install both, in fact you would be duplicating a lot of files.

Combat is decent with the controller but literally everything else is better with a keyboard and mouse. Maybe try keeping both plugged in.

Don't know about TC, but in AP there is a zone called Legend's Home which contains the OTAS shipyard. OTAS ships are pretty good across the board.
Split ships are a lot of fun as player ships because they are fast with great offensive capability, but sub par defenses.
You can take on combat missions from stations or declare your own personal war on a faction by attacking their assets. It's a lot of fun to try and capture capital ships by boarding them. I'd recommend getting yourself a corvette class ship (m6? Its been a while) as those have a pretty good balance between power and speed for a personal ship. The bigger capital ships tend to be too slow to be enjoyable just flying around in. Also in order to properly arm them you're probably going to have to get involved in building factories and setting up supply lines.

Actually I need to learn how to find and buy weapons for my default ship. It has no weapons, and I can't find any stations that have any guns.

I'm in Siezewell in the Taladi system.

This game is 99.99% pressing the "J" key so kb+m is the way to go really.

(seriously it depends on your playstyle, but you're definitely gonna see some heavy duty menu browsing action, so keep the keyboard at hand, you'll need it)

Generally you get guns at the equipment dock, which is the big long stick insect looking space station. I think Seizewell actually has a teladi shipyard in it too which is a big long tube station, generally EQDs (equipment docks) are in the same system as the shipyard and they tend to be in capital systems.

EQDs buy up guns (and other equipment) from nearby production factories so their supply can be a bit limited and not always available, but they tend to stock more things than any one factory. You can also look around for arms fabs which make guns but it's pretty hard to find the one you want.

This beard just won't do!
Outside of early game you really can't use the controller for more than like 10% of the game. There's just so much random crap you need to click or too many buttons to hit. Also targetting is horrible on controller/hotas for some reason, there never seemed to be a command to target the thing under the reticle like there is for mouse. And the combat itself is honestly too shallow to really make joysticking immersive or fun, imo.
