Turn one of store champs round 3 this Saturday, I managed to screw up and get OL in range of Soontir turn one. He rolls two hits and a crit.

To compound the issue I'd barrel rolled for some reason instead of depositing that Evade at First Comm Relay National Bank, like an idiot.

Not to worry. OL is at range 3, with Stealth Device, through an obstruction. I'm rolling 6 dice. That's about the most dice you'll ever normally roll. I'm living the green dice dream.

Never trust green dice. Damage mitigating abilities like regenerating shields, Palpatine, free evades, etc. will always be powerful because the green dice will betray you.

I'm undecided between Recon Specialist and K4 on the Firespray. I figure with Kath's improved rear end shooting I can force some bumps with my greens while getting free target locks, but I do love my Recon Firesprays.

I've run lists like this (I prefer 4x Binayre Pirate or 2x generic Y with Ion turret/Unhinged/BTL-A4 but I don't think you can go wrong with Kavil and some Binayre Pirates really) but my favourite Kath setup is Push the Limit, Engine Upgrade, and K4 Security Droid. Doing a green maneuver every turn and using Push the Limit to do two of Focus, Evade, and Boost depending on what needs to be done is great; usually I do Focus and Boost every turn which moves you essentially as far as a normal move but with the free target lock but you can do Focus and Evade if you don't have a good shot and are expecting some incoming fire. Focus and Target Lock every time you get in a 5-red tailgun shot is glorious.

Don't charge Kath headlong into the enemy and instead try to work her around so she doesn't get focused and blown up instantly. That's why I've grown to like the 4x Binayre Pirates, because the enemy has to choose between dealing with one and ignoring the other and there's no good answer.

Edit: 4 Binayre Pirates gives you 4 points to work with which can go towards say Conner Net on Kath or XX-23 S-Thread Tracers on the Pirates

gently caress that. We go to zero agility and maximize our firepower. Posting since I guess other people had already guessed that this is maybe cute enough to play. I thought I was being sneaky and clever. :(

Since you get to FCS every shot after the first (it's "perform" and not "declare target of your attack" which is neat-o!) and you get your rear arc, you're paying pretty premium prices for a ship that has good discretionary movement, albeit at PS7, that can potentially hit you with a huge gently caress-off-and-die attack - since we can Chopper for Focuses after redmoves and we have TLs forever, a Focus + TL 4 dice primary + 2 TL'd TLT shots every turn until you chew up the sixteen health seems... not great, but cute enough?

More newb questions: Am I correct in surmising that Wampa's ability takes affect during attacking dice modification and before defense dice are rolled? Therefore, if I use his ability and cancel a rolled crit, we skip defense dice rolling? Or can I wait until after defense dice are modified and use his ability during the compare results step? Basically, is there any wiggle room to optimize dice fiddling, like getting the opponent to commit evade/focus/TL tokens and then canceling the whole thing after the fact. I suspect not, but can't find a rule that clears things up for me.

No.

Since it involves cancelling attack dice, Wampa's ability would resolve during "Step 4," meaning your opponent would have a chance to modify the result with his or her own effect first (a good reason to have Palpy guarantee the crit) and long before they pick up their own green dice.

Wampa's pilot ability has been confirmed by the devs to trigger during the compare results step. You roll your reds, modify, opponent rolls greens, modify, and then once you see if the attack would hit or not you can choose to cancel the results.

If you roll a hit + crit against a tokenless soontir who blanks out you can keep your result and mess him up. If instead he has an evade token and Palpatine then he has to use them to avoid the crit. After he spends the token etc you can trigger the pilot ability and deal a facedown damage anyway.

e: This is the email that has been floating around:

"When in the Attack sequence does Wampa's pilot ability happen? I've been assuming it's during the Compare Results step, because we used to have a rule saying that that was the step where Cancel Results effects happen, but the current Rules Reference doesn't say that any more. So, does Wampa trigger during Compare Results, or during Attacker Modifies Attack Dice? Is there a general rule about the timing of Cancel Die Results abilities when not otherwise specified? Thanks, both in advance and for previous questions!

“Wampa's” ability happens at the start of the "Compare Results” step.

I have seen it go too far in the other direction though. In Attack Wing it's so locked down even question posts don't show up unless approved. In practice they seem to memory hole anything they don't want to address.

I think a clear badge showing who's official when they reply is enough. There is some value to leaving it open for community members, especially to jump in on gimmies like "can I do free actions while stressed?" or w/e.

Nobody. Nobody official posts on the FFG official forums. HTH.

If there's one bit of this game that I really find objectionable it's their slowness to FAQ. I mean, they've had months to realise that some of the questions that are coming up, are going to come up; especially WRT stuff like Wampa or IA/EPTDroid which have been out for months already, or stuff they previewed months ago like Tractor Beams, (and presumably these sorts of questions came up in playtesting) but they just don't seem to have a rigourous process for doing FAQs.

I've been hating the x-wing repaints/mods page for a while now because of the lovely hugbox mentality. On more than one occasion, people and admins have chimed in to say it's a ~positive group~ and it's actually rare that people will criticize work. Rather, it's considered a faux pas to criticize work unless the creator asks for it. Even then you get thrown softballs like people suggesting drybrushing. Drybrushing lol. How else are you even supposed to get better? :psyduck: I no longer have it posting updates to my feed but I will check on it from time to time to look for designs I can spring from, but otherwise it has become a bad group.

E: Oh yeah and there's been a tendency of new people just coming in to post "IT BEGINS...!" type posts where they might've painted a single panel on a ship. I always thought WIP shots should have significant amount of effort already done.
