What's the chance all these endorsements actually drive Rubio above Trump in some of the Super Tuesday states where Trump's only leading by a few points now? Or does this make people vote Trump MORE because the big bad establishment is trying to oppress them?

oystertoadfish posted:it's easy to write cruz off but i bet he lurks around for decades and in some future primary (maybe even 2020) he matches or exceeds this showing Several possibilities here. If Trump gets the nomination, then the GOP is not what Cruz and Levin and all those people at the National Review think it is; it's not a bunch of small govt. tea baggers demanding constitutional conservatism and a near theocracy. Even if Trump doesn't win the Presidency, the GOP might be changed forever. And, if Trump, god forbid, were to choose Cruz as his V.P., then Cruz is given the opportunity to run again. Plus, Cruz might be primaried in 2018; if he loses then, he'd likely be done for good. The only thing for sure is that Cruz is someone that can turn himself into whatever he needs to be to survive; he will do and say whatever it takes, so I expect to see him around for a long time. Texas politics is horrible.

Take a step back, guys. All of a sudden Kasich and Cruz make huge fuckups and Carson seems likely to drop out after Nevada tomorrow? This is quickly coalescing into Trump vs Rubio for Super Tuesday, with Cruz bleeding off votes from both groups. Trump gets more votes, apparently, from each candidate dropping out than Rubio does. It's going to be very interesting watching the establishment pressure everyone into backing out in favor of Marco Rubio and it ending up only solidifying Trump's lead into a sure victory. Wouldn't a split delegate situation be better, that way you can justifiably declare a convention deadlock and arrange it so Trump doesn't win? Having it be a two-man race means that the winner cannot be denied.
