Robin's boob-window is kind of cringe-inducing, though.

Nami and Robin also look like they've been stretched vertically but I guess it's to be expected.

Rigged Death Trap posted:I like how they go from Mission Impossible to Ocean's I wonder how the Kintaro mythology costumes fit in with all of this (besides the "Gold" part). So far, it's got a casino mogul, beach swim wear, and mythology wardrobes. Just from what little we know, it seems like it's going to be lame, but I will hopefully be proven wrong. Generic casino mogul is a more boring villain than rival of Gol D Roger with swords for legs or ex-Marine Admiral with a hand cannon for an arm. I'm hoping he's a gold-gold logia man with literal Midas Touch powers. Teriyaki Koinku fucked around with this message at 22:48 on Feb 23, 2016 |

If he is then Brooke better be the damsel in distress turned to gold to draw the rest in so that he can become a golden skull and not have it make any difference beyond giving him the excuse to make gold related jokes as well as skull ones.

Yeah. Everything about One Piece GOLD is looking pretty grim so far. The anime is basically unawatchable at this point, so I had hoped the movie would be a fun time,...I guess it's still hard to tell, but nothing is looking promising.

"d[-.- posted:b" post="456629519"] Yeah, but that was just a cover (along with his hero persona) for his real plans as the head of Baroque Works. Crocodile was nowhere near generic and was totally awesome. This GOLD villain seems... generic.

I think there's immense potential to do something new and interesting in a shonen movie with a casino boss villain. I also haven't seen any of the movies and don't really plan to change that so

Rigged Death Trap posted:I like how they go from Mission Impossible to Ocean's I appreciated this comparison On a related note, I'd say that One Piece GOLD looks less 'grim' as more 'textbook cookie cookie cutter' anime series film. Film Z kinda fell flat for me, pretty underwhelming; not bad, just not great. I guess it just feels refreshing to see a OP movie that's straight-up honest about how superfluous it's going to be, just sit back and enjoy the ride. Movie 6 was like that and look how that one turned out White Light fucked around with this message at 10:17 on Feb 24, 2016 |

Im the same way; can't get into the movies. It feels too wierd to watch a one piece arc in 90 mins rather than over a couple years.

drat shame for you boys, some of those movies are loving fantastic and rival the best arcs in One Piece. Like, Baron Omatsuri is legitimately fine art. Tonally dark, visually unique One Piece is something I never thought I'd get to see in my lifetime. I mean, there are stinkers, all shonen has bad movies. But it's not even like the better DBZ movies where at best it's a fun hour-long romp that probably doesn't fit into the canon due to timeline/powerup contradictions, there are One Piece movies that could easily stand on their own separate from the entire series. Some really good stuff out there.

I wish One Piece movies had less of the 'This is such a totally awesome and badass and TOUGHEST VILLAIN EVER' thing and had more focus on the Straw Hats being goofy and having fun with each other.

Assuming Kaidou is the ruling Shogun of Wano, what are the chances Luffy/Law/the Samurai help start a samurai insurrection against Kaidou and begin a civil war similar to the historical Boshin war? Considering Wano is supposed to be ersatz feudal Japan, I wouldn't be surprised if Oda crams in as many historical Japan references as possible. Kaidou's forces seem to be ersatz Vikings/Mongols as well, being incredibly war and pillage-driven and all. Teriyaki Koinku fucked around with this message at 07:13 on Feb 25, 2016 |
