Broken to the end, the Advent Network Tower map just simultaneous exploded, instant killing an Andromedon in stasis and creating an untargetable Andromedon Shell.

Yeah, except for all the times it fucks up and stays on one soldier until they finish the rope animation. Overwatch all and Evac all are basically must have mods imo.

The last pod in the tower killed my Andromedon, giving them a Shell. Oh yeah, it also gave them all their turns back and cleared their status effects. That's cool. Good. Great to see that the last mission is just as nonfunctional as EU's was. e: Also the whole map keeps exploding at random so there is almost no cover anywhere. On maintaining B/C teams, I do a stupid bit of roleplaying in my game where (if it's viable) I only have one of the whatever the highest rank in my soldier list on a mission. I pretend like my organization wouldn't send the top ranked people every time just to potentially get them all killed. It sounds silly, but it's satisfying for me and actually works pretty well on making sure I use way more of my roster. (Which is great, because I get so attached to these stupid fake people.)

I always bring the highest ranked (below Colonel) soldier of each class, plus either 2 squaddies (early) or 2 psi-ops (late). ...which is why I hate the new "put +coolstuff consumables on troops" mechanic.

Commander Bronzeman, Flawless Blacksite, all 22 ETs killed, no enemy shots fired. Operation "Little Gods" indeed. I reaaaaally should have autopsied Mutons earlier. I have T2 everything and have Plasma researched, and am still using T1 grenades. If it wasn't for Shredder scaling with tech I'd be having a much worse time of things.

The walls don't work, the framerate is single digits, the camera is flying into the deep, the aliens get four actions a turn, the things that say "guaranteed damage" are being dodged, and I'm still winning. e: Nevermind, the game just auto fired my explosives directly at my feet. Cool. e: Lol the rng seed broke too. When I reloaded the turn, my andromedon crit a guy. This time he missed. I did nothing different. XCOM Lives! I'd love to compare my stats to the global ones but it couldn't connect. It's too bad the last levels are so buggy because they're cool as hell otherwise; I'd feel bad about reloading it a few times but the los issues and it just firing my explosives straight down forced me to. I really hope the expansions do more with rallying civilians or helping them fight while dealing with that other threat. Also it's interesting that they retcon the last game then keep more or less the same ending and warnings (and I assume the Uber Ethereal is supposed to be the one Ethereal shittalking you in 2). I love the aesthetics and design of these games so much. I don't know why it says 2 soldiers died. 3 did, the two tutorial rookies, and that rookie from the broken tutorial mission where the truck exploded at random with no way to prevent it. Hilariously, by the end most missions had a 100% shot rate - unless I brought the sniper along. Time to go to Commander! e: Now that I've beaten it vanilla I'm ready for mods. I haven't really been paying attention to them, throw me some cool customization ones! I've got Capnbeeb's helmets, Evac All, and Overwatch All so far. e: Oh also I really like the implication that the reason the aliens are so deadset on Earth is because they have nowhere else to go. You're fighting the remains of all those alien races. RBA Starblade fucked around with this message at 05:12 on Feb 26, 2016 |

XCOM newbie here. I wish the game did a better job of explaining things before said things gently caress me over, but I'm beginning to deal. When I actually know what I'm doing the game is very enjoyable. One thing that confuses me is the interaction between overwatch and Codex's teleport. Does overwatch only trigger if the Codex blinks to a tile without cover? 02-6611-0142-1 posted:I had a panicked soldier throw a grenade into a cluster of three civilians, it owned That also happened to me. As much as I have learned of the aliens during combat, I realize just how little I really know about them outside of that context. If they could speak to us, what would they say? What do they think? A dissected corpse tells us much, yes, but is it too much to learn from a living specimen?

Maximum Planck posted:Does overwatch only trigger if the Codex blinks to a tile without cover? Overwatch normally only triggers when enemies move. If they perform a special ability or just attack where they stand, it doesn't trigger, and that goes for Teleport too. Do not rely on overwatch when dealing with Codex. A codex may teleport or may walk to a location, depending on how things go. But their whole moveset is designed to keep your party scattered; don't clump people together. And of course, don't forget, Flashbangs neutralize them nicely.

IIRC, Flashbangs work just fine on them. It's a good grenade to slot on your Gunner Grenadiers for whatever you can't kill in time, if you prefer them to have Heavy Ordnance/Salvo instead of Holo-targeting/Hail of Bullets.

Maximum Planck posted:I see. It'd make sense to me if movement abilities triggered overwatch, but at least there's an internal logic to it. And thanks for the tip, I'll kit someone out with a flashbang. Oh, one more thing: Specialists do get Covering Fire which is an upgraded Overwatch that lets them pre-emptively attack if an enemy in their range tries to use a special ability or attack, as well as just moving. It even triggers before the enemy attacks. They alternately get the ability to make Aid Protocol give Covering Fire to someone else (unless they've put their own gremlin on Aiding themselves) for a turn. These are useful against a Codex if it decides to teleport behind someone and shoot at them. Plus I like giving Specialists "Ever Vigilant" so they automatically go into overwatch if they just moved during their last turn. It's like them sliding into cover and propping their weapon up at the same time. VERY useful on timed missions where you can't afford to overwatch-creep like you did in Enemy Unknown, this way you get to rush around *and* overwatch at the same time. Normally Overwatches carry an aim penalty too, but you can buy a G.T.S. ability for specialists to make overwatches have +10 aim (i'm not sure if this means they just have -5 aim overall or if it completely negates the aim penalty and gives you +10 on top, but either way, it's good).
