Getting harder to tell apart the Honda and Chevy aerokits beside the airboxes.

It looks like Chevy has only used 1 of their 3 updates (the front wing isn't on the cars at Phoenix), and I don't know how many Honda has used yet. So they may diverge later in the year, whenever they want to use those boxes.

They'll probably use their next update before Indy.

A number of updated have been made to the engines in the name of reliability, but the major performance-related upgrades, which are allowed for 2016, are not expected to debut until after the season begins. http://www.racer.com/more/viewpoints/item/126561-miller-relaunching-indycar-at-phoenixquote:Based on history and the current malaise towards ovals, if 20,000 people turned out it would be a major success and 15,000 might be considered drat good. There were more people at PIR on Saturday night than Fontana drew with its Saturday in June date last year.

Given the line I sat in to pull into the parking lot at noon on Saturday... I would absolutely agree with that statement, and I didn't even stick around past around 3PM. Granted, they only opened a few sections of the Allison stands (which are arguably the best seats in the house anyway because of the glorious shade they provide) but the sections that were open felt about as populated as Fontana did on raceday, and I skipped the ghost town last year. And this was a goddamn test! I forgot how much the mountains and overall layout of PIR make the cars sound a bit louder, too... definitely louder there than at Fontana or Indy.

No doubt, the weather was awesome this weekend (slightly warm in the sun, perfect in the abundant shade). But considering that we also had NHRA in town, getting that many people out to the far west side to watch practice still counts for something.

For those millennials that only care about the Indy 500 Snake Pit and not the actual race (seen plenty of them on race day), the following are performing at this year's Snake Pit: Sounds like another year of drunk girls hanging on me trying to find the Snake Pit because apparently having a photo vest means that I know where everything is

http://www.racer.com/indycar/item/126697-indycar-downforce-hot-topic-after-phoenix-test The cars at Phoenix were generating a ridiculous amount of downforce, perhaps as much as 6000 pounds. (Three tons!!!) Everyone realized that this made for poor racing conditions and started talking about reducing downforce, but then some smart people decided that would be a dumb thing to do and instead started talking about upping the turbo boost to full road course levels to make the cars faster down the straights and require drivers to, um, drive the cars in the turns. Please please please
