Jesus christ, can't say I ever expected that. I really hope it's not some stunt or something he's gonna 180 on either. A long time ago I used to like his content and thought he sounded like a cool enough dude, then when was it that he just blew up, right after he cut with TGWTG? Either way, then right after some point he just let fly, shits on Brad for his marriage, tells Spoony to kill himself, this and that, like woah man no thank you. If he finally came around and realized that was some bullshit, then good on him.

Truly I have never seen a murderer more horrifying. Thank you again Alison, for revealing this chilling tale of terror.

My favorite parts are where all his bro-bros assure him, nah dude, you're a good guy. You've created a meaningful community here. You know, a meaningful community that's prided itself on swarming and harassment for years. You've been a locus for shittiness, Jason. A real hero to insecure manchildren everywhere who can only feel powerful by making poo poo up and dogpiling random people for some perceived SJW-related wrong. Whose only meaning in life is, at best, just being lovely en masse. Don't you know that meeeaaaans something Jason? That the abject worst of humanity needs you? No, you're a good guy, Jason. A GOOD guy. Because you've provided a community for other good guys who can only make themselves feel good by (and using this word is being super charitable) harassing people and spreading conspiracy theories and meaningless bile.

So of all the dozens upon dozens of women he wronged (stories like mine from TGWTG, being a part of Gamergate, and even literally molesting a woman on camera), the only "woman" he bothered to apologize to is the one he found out was a man. Go gently caress yourself, Jason.

My story got twisted into "stealing a house" because Jason's fanbase wanted to ruin a woman's life, no matter what she had done. I also got sent rape threats and "jokes" endlessly after Spoony made a rape joke about me that I never even responded to, apart from asking him if he was okay. Thousands of guys just wanna see women destroyed. They do not need a reason.

By the way, looking into this situation a little more? Jason has a new real-world job now. I really have to wonder how many people who get into a dogpile don't think of the targets as actual people. Or maybe they think of them as people, but distort what they actually say or do to justify what they are doing as right. I'd guess that people don't see what they are doing as wrong ("It's not harassment, it's criticism!") or as hurtful, and the distance allowed by the internet makes it easier to do. There's probably a whole bunch of studies on this sort of thing, or there will be in the near future.

Not to mention the effect of having a group of people around you on your individual behavior. Video games themselves might not have direct influence on behavior, but I'd have to wonder what effects the community around video games would have, good and bad. Again, probably already studies or there will be studies in the future.

Still Jake, I want to thank you and Zac; your writing on geek culture and how people conflate criticism of something they like with criticism of themselves helped me to think about how I might do that, and how to separate the two. Not to mention how you guys and the Chez Apocalypse crew helped get me more aware of social justice issues and how not to be a shithead online.

CONTENT:

So I was on a magic special binge last year, especially when it came to the David Copperfield TV specials. I started reading up on David in general and how the specials were put together, and I learned a bit about the team that helped Copperfield pull off his illusions. And lo and behold, a few weeks ago I found out Shark Jumping did an episode on them:

HOHO MAGIC (Warning: Doug face in the first couple of minutes)

They basically argue that most of the specials were solid, and that the "shark jumping" point came with his last special, Tornado of Fire, and the rise of street magicians David Blaine and Criss Angel. The special has a bunch of moments where a 40 year-old magician tries to be hip, a few "magic on the street" segments, and a finale where Copperfield risks his life by standing in the center of the titular (and admittedly very dangerous looking) tornado of fire. For about ten seconds. MAGIC~

So yeah, he was definitely aping Blaine's style with the special. It wasn't all terrible though; the "Portal" illusion he does at the end where he and an audience member "teleport" to Hawaii was cool. And it didn't really hurt him too much in the end; he stopped for a while, bought a chain of islands in the Bahamas, and he's still apparently performing in Vegas to this day. He's not in the public eye as much, but he shows up on occasion.

There's a little bit of interesting stuff about where the illusions came from, including how many were originally done by Doug Henning. I'd like to see someone approach magic specials with an eye towards presentation and how it's all put together along with entertainment value, but unfortunately all we really have is this guy. :effort: at its finest. This other guy, Alexo does it better at least, but there's only the one. I need more dammit.

Sorry for the magic :spergin: , but it's nice to see a bit of a resurgence with Penn and Teller: Fool Us on the air.

I think the problem Lordkat has what he mixed his trolling with his professional entertainer persona - I liked him when he'd goof off and have fun on stream, but then he got angrier and meaner and I stopped watching. Dude is literally crying with remorse in the video, it sounds like he does want to be a better person. Hopefully he makes a clean break and finds something that makes him happy and fulfilled - as much as his behaviour turned me off his show, if he really wants to own up to his mistakes and move on, fair play to him.

I feel like people are trying to say, "Oh, hey, maybe this shithead's actually planning on not being a shithead, that'd be nice," and other people are hearing, "Welp, remorse, looks like he's a good guy now, let's never talk about his shitheadedness again!" Which isn't terribly surprising, since I've seen that pop up a lot (especially, for some reason, in cases of misogynist assholes), but I'd like to at least adopt a "wait and see" attitude, where we hold off on any assumptions until dude has some time to either walk the walk or backslide into further shitheadedness.

I definitely hold out hope that assholes can figure out they were assholes and make some effort toward self-improvement, and it'd be cool if this were such an example. No need to forget former shittiness (in fact, if he's really comitted to this, he'll have to address it) and no reason for any victims to deal with him at all, but I'd at least like to reserve judgment until we see if he's the for real deal.

Yeah the Spoony rant really killed the community going around there, his community was pretty strong and he had a lot of people watching his streams, but ultimately his hatred and bile lead to his undoing. He basically banned anybody from the Spoony forums from being on the chat and there was a lot of crossover between those forums and the LK chat (which makes sense since there are/were a lot of awful assholes on both sides)

I'm sad to see him turn into such a terrible person over the years, hell its surreal thinking that he would invite me on skype calls to talk on the stream while they played TF2 (though I should have seen the cracks when he told me to take some pills/stop being a spaz because I was asking if I could go on the call). At least I have some fond memories of watching them play L4D2 and those early DnD campaigns.
