This strip kind of worried me because clearly Onstad's still turning on parts of the Achewood machine one at a time and it's like "Lie Bot? All right.", but then that line with the italic treatment and it's like "Yeah. Yeah."

The one right after it makes me severely uncomfortable- it hit much too close to home and actually changed the way I think, just a little bit.

They're not worried about how they know high school nights end.

They're worried because the murderer DOESN'T know. So they don't know how, or even if, Nice Pete is planning on finishing.

I dunno if that's really it. they know he doesn't know, but they know he's informed by books and movies. so they're expecting him to expect a high school night to end like it does in books and movies.

Upon reflection, I think the truth of it is that high school nights end bruised, bloody and sucking a stranger's dick in the back of a van. Which is exactly how that high school night ended.

The subtext, or meaning behind the images being that fiction high school nights are full of promise and wonder, actual high school nights are full of sickness and terror.
