So, the problem last week is that our ISP is suddenly really inconsistent with its bandwidth, going from 2.2-24mbps all the way down to 600k for no reason I can tell. Like, this morning at 2am was testing around 700-900, and now it seems to be back to normal (which is why we're trying to stream now). Darndest thing. Mediacom claims they can't detect anything wrong on the line and replaced our modem for free, but that didn't do anything. Freakin' technology. So anyway, fingers crossed our speed stays in an acceptable range today, so we're going to be streaming Darkest Dungeon! We'll be replacing the Harvest Hangout with this instead, doing a dungeon crawl or two before whatever game Ben or I will be doing normally. Much thanks to Mog for the idea!  We'll be getting started shortly. Feel free to drop by and get some hapless adventurer named after you! Once we've gotten a decent roster Ben has an idea for shaking up the formula a bit, we'll keep y'all posted! Edit: Done! Thanks all for the advice. We're taking a break from Might and Magic X for another episode of Doomed MMO Theatre. This time I'll be looking at Wildstar. Why is Wildstar doomed? It's a subscription MMO that went F2P and is published by NCSoft. Battle Brothers just received a huge update so I'm going to stream it out and see how it goes. The game is a medieval/fantasy setting mercenary company game. I will be running a band of sellswords that start hard on their luck and try to build the company up to fame and fortune. Or Infamy. Or death. I mean who knows how things are going to go. Twitch gets ornery if you stream at a bitrate higher than 3500 kb/s, because unless you have quality options everyone watching your stream is also downloading at 3500 kb/s, but luckily going from 30 FPS to 60 FPS doesn't actually require you to double your bitrate and 3300 kb/s works out okay at 1080p60 - likewise, 2500 kb/s works great for 720p60. There are some other options to consider. Quality Balance is sort of a sliding scale between quality static images and quality motion - higher numbers will give you sharper images, but if your max bitrate isn't entirely up to snuff for the resolution/framerate you'll see very pixellated movement. If you can't raise your bitrate, try turning your quality balance lower. As an alternative to using the Quality Balance settings, you can select "Use CBR" - this disables and ignores the Quality Balance setting and forces the stream to use the specified Max Bitrate, irrespective of how much data is actually present during a stream. In general, if your overall bandwidth usage isn't really a concern (and if it is, why are you streaming?), you shouldn't have any issues selecting this option. On the other hand, if your available upload speed is not terribly beefy relative to your chosen resolution/desired fps, you may find that you get better results from NOT checking this and tweaking the quality balance. In the Video settings, OBS also provides the option for Resolution Downscale - this allows you to stream video at a lower resolution than what you're actually playing at, with a minor hit to the image quality due to sizing down the image. If you don't quite have the bandwidth to stream consistently at 1080p, you will probably find that you get significantly better results downscaling to 720p.
