The reality is that they would probably end up splitting in some ratio that still allows A to win with some just not voting at all. If Cruz the slimy, amoral theocrat drops 100% of his supporters aren't going to flock to Rubio the establishment empty suit boy-man and vice versa. It's sad how these guys are desperately trying to pretend they have any agency in Trump winning or losing.

I may be wrong on this, but if the RNC party leadership said "hey, Trump is going to totally gently caress us, we're dropping his rear end", they could pull the plug on him at any time and have a brokered convention. They'd suffer huge backlash and probably be equally as likely to lose, though. I actually kind of thought that was Trump's plan, for a while, and I'm not convinced that it isn't his plan. He knows, and the GOP knows, that he'll get absolutely crushed by Clinton, despite what any of the polls show this far out.

So dumb bullshit for people who are mad they can't be racist against Muslims and older millenials who are apparently eager to enter the "old man bitching about the kids these days" stage of their life, basically.

Two ways:

1) You are an privileged, amoral narcissist concerned with nothing more than hoovering up as many resources as you can from other people and having everything you see. Notably, I know a rich white boy like this who I regularly want to stab, in particular every time he uses the word "distortion" or any of its conjugations, and who often makes me want to punch my brother for being friends with him.

2) You get indoctrinated young. You get raised on regurgitated Fox News rage and are never taught critical thinking and have it beaten into you (sometimes literally) that questioning authority or tradition is Bad. My experience with college Republicans was that they were pretty much always business majors of some stripe that think they'll work their way up to being billionaire CEOs some day and want to pay 0% tax rates when they inevitably get there. That or hyper evangelicals that kept putting up wooden crosses that represent aborted babies on campus.

Every year they'd put up a big thing quoting bullshit statistics on abortion and trying to claim that each cross (they'd put up like a hundred of them) represented multiple thousands of aborted babies.

The two groups are not mutually exclusive.

Given the propensity for media in general to distort the past and the right wing's absolute determination to re-write history whenever possible, I guess it shouldn't be too surprising that we seem to have learned absolutely nothing from it.

Can't second this enough. It was and is awkward every time. Though my fondest/strangest memory was when I went to vote on my lunch in 08 and was in uniform. Some old man in a wheelchair and oxygen tank asked if I was in "the Cav" since he saw my first cavalry division patches. When I said yes he said "I spent two years in a Chinese prison camp cuz of the Cavvvv! You know what that patch means boy?" By this point, everyone in line was watching our exchange.

Having just passed my E5 board the previous month and being completely naive about what was about to happen next, I proudly explained the symbolism of the patch to this fellow vet. His response? "That ain't what it means, the black stripe is the river that was never crossed, the horse is the one that was never ridden and the yellow is for cowardice!" I had no idea how to respond, none. I wasn't going to get in a fight with some old guy in a wheelchair with an understandable hatred for my unit. I shrugged it off with "well, I wasn't in any part of that sir." His equally old friend in line then broke the ensuing silence with "don't mind him, he's just grumpy."

Luckily we were near the front so I only had to stand next to this guy glaring at me for a little bit. We were also at Fort Hood, so that guy had to have seen soldiers from my division every day, but I guess me being next to him for about 20 minutes brought him to a boiling point.

During the Korean War, there were disparaging rumors about the 1st Cavalry Division's fighting abilities, including a folk song of the time called "The Bug-Out Ballad".[5] The series of engagements that are rumored to have given rise to the song were due (at least partly) to the myth that the division lost its unit colors.[6] Other Army and Marine units disparagingly described the division shoulder insignia as representing 'The horse they never rode, the river they never crossed, and the yellow speaks for itself'. Another version goes: "The shield they never carried, the horse they never rode, the bridge they never crossed, the line they never held, and the yellow is the reason why." The incident that apparently gave rise to this rumor appears to be the Battle of Unsan, which took place on 1–2 November 1950 at Unsan, Korea. In that battle, the 8th Cavalry regiment, a component of the 1st Cavalry Division, was pushed back from positions in and around the town of Unsan by superior Chinese forces. The regiment was severely battered, experienced heavy casualties, and lost a considerable amount of equipment. This was one of the first major Chinese operations in the Korean War and, like the Changjin (Chosin) Reservoir Battle of this same period, it took the United Nations Command by surprise.

I work for a regional cell phone carrier, and every great once in awhile I have folks come in looking to switch from a major carrier because they read some article about how their current company somehow supports PP. Customer behavior already baffles me, but I still always struggle to not delve deeper on that particular quirk long enough to get the sale.
