Vegas also presents well to the machine gun approach. Find someone within 20 feet of you that is +/- 2 points from you on the wealth/attractive/social scale. Strike up a conversation. If in 60 seconds, it feels like it's going somewhere, keep going. If not, move on. Repeat. 10 or 20 or 100 times later, you will have a girlfriend for the night.

I had a Spring Break where I literally walked up to girls and said "Hey, you're cute, want to go back to my place?" with a substantial degree of success. Not that that is optimal by any means. I just can't be bothered to make small talk.

My most annoying co-worker, who used that approach at home (which is downright embarrassing) used it in Vegas and saw a fair amount of action. Which is where I got it from. This guy is particularly low on the wealth/attractive/social scale, and he got laid repeatedly.

Also, people from the rural midwest (Iowa, et al) want to have crazy stories about Vegas, and are particularly open to suggestion. Stuff they would never do at home they will do in Vegas without a second thought because they think it's normal there.

Hey my wife and I are going to Vegas on the weekend of March 25. She got some Amex deal on the Mandarin Oriental, but they have a $30 valet fee. Is it still worth it to rent a car or is there any free parking reasonably close?

E: staying from the 24th to 28th

Guns & Ammo Garage is a block of the strip on Dean Martin near Tropicana. Strip Gun Club is.....on the strip. Just after Sahara headed north. Machine Guns Vegas is just off of Spring Mountain west of the strip. So depending on where you're staying those are probably the closest.

It's worse here than any other city I've ever taken Uber in. But it's mostly cheaper than a taxi off the strip. On strip it's probably faster and close to the same price to go from hotel to hotel. And yes. Clusterfuck

Once you figure out where the loading zones are, it's not bad. For some of the casinos, it's right at the main lobby. For others, they shove it like, back in the loading dock. I think the Lyft app was a little better about telling you were exactly to go, but you can also just ask the folks in the lobby and they'll tell you.

It was waaaaaay cheaper than taxis when I was there a couple months ago. It was like $14 to go from the strip to downtown, compared to the usual $20-25 in taxis, and strip to airport was like, $16. Plus, the cars were nicer, no long hauling bullshit, and no arguing about tips.

Vegas cabbies are amongst the worst I've seen anywhere* and I hate that they make abusive companies like Lyft and Uber look good. They seriously need to extend that monorail to the airport so people can have functional transit.

*with the exception of the dude who didn't want to drive us to Ronald's Donuts off the strip for lack of a return fare until we bribed him with free apple fritters (and cash). That dude ruled and his objections were reasoned and considered.

For those of you who have been to Rose Rabbit Lie, is it worth going and if so what time should you try to get there? Also is there a particular room that's better than others, or can you walk around after your meal, or how does that all work?

Rose Rabbit Lie is meh. I guess it's worth checking out but I wasn't overly impressed. The speakeasy room is the coolest part of the whole place. You can go to and from rooms as you please, I haven't been in forever though so it may have changed. I'd recommend just getting dinner elsewhere and going to Absinthe.

I'm still incredibly disappointed I missed out on "The Library" just so I could show up with my American Library Association discount card and demand a deal at the strip club.

Anyway with regards to guns, I have yet to see a good rental range within spitting distance of the Strip.

I've always been pretty happy with it when I'm licking my gambling wounds at 4am at the Venetian. But I'm not sure if I've had enough exposure to less Americanized Chinese food to know where it really lies. The review sites seem to think its mediocre, but its hard to pick out the people who went in there expecting like General Tso's Chicken and came out disappointed.

It's not as greasy as your typical "Americanized" Chinese Food whatever. It's higher-quality Panda Express if anything.

Any Korean BBQ recommendations? We're staying at the Veer Towers with family and it looks like Gangnam Asian BBQ Dining is the best reviewed place nearby. It's said to be a bit pricy, but we would like to get a great Korean BBQ experience while there since we don't have them in Minneapolis.

Also is there a good Japanese restaurant that serves omurice? I saw on yelp that a place called Cafe du Japon apparently served the best but has closed. The only other place i saw that has it is Japanese Cuisine by Omae.

Seriously though my personal belief is that The Strip is for being spendy and treating yourself like a king while Downtown is where you go to slum it out and be a drunken mess. Both are good and fun.

Yeah I usually stay on the strip and get my drinking/gambling on downtown.

This time the conference is downtown and I don't really have too much time to make it over there but I'll probably find a nice place to have dinner one night. It's just me though so I don't want to have too nice a dinner, (it would be weird).

Does anyone agree that the Fremont Street light show looks like a Windows 95 screen saver? I mean, the scale of the thing is certainly impressive, but they really need to update that software. I've used WinAmp visualizer plugins that looked better. It's about on par with what I've seen at roller rinks.

Which, I mean, is just about right for Fremont street, between the guys in unlicensed costumes hassling you for money and that one giant gift shop that smells like a sewer main burst.

I'll be going to Vegas for the Robo Expos trade show in early May, as well as a few days of general vacation stuff:

http://www.roboexpos.com/home-1.html

I was considering Monte Carlo and Flamingo for their pool facilities (I don't see myself doing much else at the hotel itself besides sleeping, so my standards for the actual room aren't terribly high). Has anyone had any recent experience with those? The Flamingo is also right in the middle of the strip where I'd ideally like to be (the things I'd like to check out are all over the place).

And has anyone checked out the Toy Shack on Fremont Street? It seemed like something that a lot of goons would be interested in.

I stayed at the Flamingo in December, in one of the newer rooms ("Go" room, I think?).

I was really happy with the room. It was clean with nice, modern decor. Definitely a step up from Harrahs, where I've stayed in the past. My only complaint with the room was that the bathroom had a weird sliding glass door thing, which can be awkward if you're staying with anyone. Also, the ceilings are a bit low compared to other hotels. Otherwise, solid room for the price. You're right in the middle of the action, and I liked that there were lots of cheap food options nearby. The Flamingo garden is really cool, and the buffet there isn't bad.

So two friends and I are looking at heading out to EVO this summer. I haven't been to Vegas since I was around 13 yrs old. (I'm 33 now, they're a year younger than I am). Anyone in this thread been to EVO before? Can give a few pointers on where to see about getting into any after parties or how the Hard Rock bar scene is, and just chill outdoors kinds of places there are for the evening time?

Thanks in advance guys.

Stayed there a few weeks ago. It's fine. Mid-strip so easy to get to places if you like walking or cheap cab rides. Right across the street from Bellagio fountains, too.
