No idea. Presumably when she posts something like samples of patches, shirts, etc. she's reviewing them for approval or rejection, but considering how lovely their merch turns out I'm not sure that's a glowing example of her competence.

Around the Verse!

Opening fan clip is 15fps space pew-pew with high-fidelity explosions meant to distract you from the fact that the pilot's ship disappears at the end, leaving him floated in a seated position as sparks shower by him.

Opening Sandi & Ben clip is an abrupt shift in tone. They are trying to educate tire-kickers here, not jawboning with their older backers. At least so far... Overlays of ship porn while they talk is, I believe, new-- it will have to do until the showroom is live in Game.

Nervous Ben talks about the introduction of ship coolers -- and notes for nervous backers that was a $56M stretch goal. One down, 1999 to go.

Sandi explains that the new Reverse the Verse will no longer talk about useless things like what people had for lunch and employee hair states. (I said earlier they didn't take our constructive feedback to heart so color me surprised! Maybe they'll talk about more backer civility before this is done?)

No sarcasm here, CIG-- a focused RTV is an improvement....

...and then they start talking about Wing Commander's 20th anniversary!

The remote office updates show improved pacing. Less rambling. Again, feels like a step in the right direction tonally for them.

Not going to watch the whole Pedro interview because who cares but I -ed at the gigantic orchestra b-roll. (Does John Williams even need that many musicians for a score?)

In all seriousness, the closing outtakes were pretty decent. Ben parodies his Wing Commander lore master stereotype with aplomb and Sandi parodies(?) her "drat I'm tired of hearing about my husband's game all the bloody time" persona. I was smiling in spite of myself, in part because it actually seemed grounded in fact (and because we've complained about WC overload so much). Sounds like they are learning, if slowly, how to write what you know...

and Sandi couldn't resist eating on camera again... like how Dan Rather had his daily powerbar while he talked about Canadian trade pacts.

I can't imagine attempting to have a conversation with that man. Wing Commander was... a game, I guess? Mostly OK? Sort of the "Crysis" system test of its day. I don't remember any of it. I remember everything about Tie Fighter. Sorry, Chris, you fail the "is it memorable" test.

Speaking of memorable games, remember Q*Bert? Remember Slick and Sam, those two green assholes who went behind you and undid all the work you completed changing the colors of the cubes? That must be what it's like when Chris comes around and meddles in the developers' progress.

Solar Plebian's startup sequence should be like this. Dozens of different screens on flimsy robot arms constantly shoving themselves in your face demanding you acknowledge them. Every time you think that you're done and go to reach for the throttle another panel swings out from some hidden recess into your face. Sometimes they have accidents with two panels trying to swing forward at the same time and they stop awkwardly, like two people who reach a stop-sign at the same time and they both stop, wait for the other person to go, start to creep forward when they realize that the other person is waiting for them, then stop when they see the other person creeping forward.

There should also be a lawnmower engine primer somewhere. That little bulb you have to push in with your thumb a few times.

haha fantastic. I'll add the lawnmower primer. I'm a dog poo poo animator, but I'm gonna give actuated panels the ol' college try.

this is great, and every time you click the actual hand pushes the hippo lever randomly different. Delicate press with your finger, mashing it down with a loose fist, using both hands to jam more than one at a time

also the computer is not linked to the hippos at all and doesn't comment on them because they don't actually do anything and are literally hungry hungry hippos on a side panel in a space ship cockpit.

When you wreck if you don't completely explode some of the marbles should float out in front of you right before you pass out

This just lends credence to the thought that CIG is going to ship SQ42 out at all costs with everything else being indefinitely delayed - you don't need all that economy bullshit for a game about hour-long boring cut scenes interspersed with "dogfighting" against dumb AI opponents.
