I don't really want to go back through 20 something pages possibly. The consensus on other sites I've seen is that the s7 is a decent phone.

Basically my HTC One M8 is having charging issues, and I can upgrade to the S7 if I want to. I'm honestly thinking of doing it. I mainly use my phone for gaming, social media, web surfing, etc. The battery on the s7 would be slightly better than the m8, which is okay. The s7 edge would be even better but I don't know if I can hold out another month until the edge becomes available on Verizon. Also, I've never used a screen larger than 5.1 so I don't know if that's something that I'm really interested in.

I have another easy question. If I activate my new phone under a different Gmail account, I will retain the purchases and game profiles made from Google Play apps? Or should I switch everything to the new account now? I have a few things I've invested in.

The top of the line Nexus is currently the 6P, but (on paper at least) it's pretty hard to recommend it over the S7/Edge if you're looking for the absolute bleeding edge. The Nexus is less expensive though.

You can't transfer purchases from one google account to another, but you can be logged into more than one account at a time. If you like, you can start making purchases with the new account now and keep the old one around only as long as the apps you purchased with it stay relevant.

Make sure these are installed and up to date:

Google Play services

Google quick search box

Google Now Launcher

Google Calendar

Google Keyboard

Make Google Now Launcher, Google Calendar, Messenger, Clock, and Google Keyboard the defaults. Disable the Samsung versions where possible.

While you're in settings, go into "Themes". Go into the "Theme Store". Search for Material Design (it's the one made by Cameron Bunch). Download and then Apply the theme (you may need to create a Samsung account if you don't already have one). Note that Cameron hasn't had a chance to submit an S7-aware version yet so one or two icons won't be changed in Settings.

To change the dreaded Quick Settings in the notification shade:
Pull down the notification shade. Pull it down again or tap the downward chevron at top right. Tap EDIT at top.
You can't turn off the brightness slider but you can turn off the Quick connect button.

Once you've done all that, you might check out Droid Life's Galaxy S7: First 10 Things You Should Do, and also Phandroid's 50+ Samsung Galaxy S7 Tips & Tricks.

So I was in to my carrier store yesterday (US Cellular) to get a faulty sim card replaced. While I was there, they pitched me a deal that sounds decent. If you buy a new Galaxy Tab S2 9.7" and pay for it via monthly financing, it comes out to ~$27/month for 24 months. The "line" fee for 4G service is $5/month, bringing the monthly total to ~$32. If you also have a Galaxy s6 or have ordered an s7, you get a $20 discount on your monthly bill. I currently have an s6.

The end result is that I'd pay a grand total of ~$300 ($12 x 24) for a Tab S2 with 4G service for 24 months. Assuming this is all actually true and they weren't full of poo poo (that's a big assumption), is there any reason I shouldn't jump on this deal? I don't see myself as a big tablet user, but my wife loved her old Samsung tablet and has been talking about wanting a newer one. $300 sounds pretty great for a high(er) end tablet with 4G service.

Its surprisingly good for a phone strapped to your face but its no match for a 600$ headset powered by a powerful computer. But it also doesn't cost as much as a 600$ headset and a powerful computer so its a neat entry level thing into VR.

This is true. It's just that my computer is good enough for now, and I'd rather wait another 9-12mo to upgrade as the next gen of Intel processors and Nvidia cards will be out and the 1000 series should have some serious performance increases. If the Samsung VR is just mediocre, then I'd rather get the watch and wait until later in the year for an Oculus or Vive.

Yeah as mentioned above it's not that simple. There are links based on "your interest in Donald Trump" but if it's not directly related to something you've searched it just shows up as "Stories to Read". If you disable "Stories to Read" you just get no articles in your Google Now, ever. But yeah, it's stupid I can't specify exactly what type of stories show up in my Google Now unless I do all my browsing logged out of my Google account. I might click on a link about Ted Cruz eating a booger/tonsillolith or Rubio being stupid because it's hilarious but I don't actually want Politico/Foxnews/whatever constantly showing up on my Google Now, for example.

Is there a significant usability difference between the S7 and 6P? I'm ready for a new phone and also thinking about switching to Fi (currently have a Galaxy S3 and Sprint SERO). I use between 1-2GB of data per month, so nothing crazy. I would consider myself a power user, I like to gently caress with things and install ROMs and poo poo but I'm at the point now where I just want a reliable phone that works but will still let me customize stuff (nova launcher, for example). I've really liked my S3 and like what Samsung is doing with the S7, but it's hard not to also consider the 6P.

I know people bitch about how lovely Sprint is, and while I don't love the company or the service, it's proven to be good enough in my area and I don't feel switching is required. I'd save some money by switching to Fi, but paying the full cost of the phone makes the difference negligible to me.

Any advice?

I rarely get Stories to Read anymore. The only thing that ever seems to trigger is updates to Mike Brown's Revolutions Podcast page; No other articles have seemed to pop up in my Google Now since about a year ago. No idea why.

I wonder if it's because I do a lot of my reading in Newsstand now.

It sounds like you don't have any strong opinions about Touchwiz, so it probably just comes down to which device you like the hardware on the most, the fact that the 6P is cheaper, and how much you value the greater potential of getting more OS updates for a longer period of time.

I'm not sure I've even used Touchwiz, I certainly don't remember forming an opinion of it. I've had CM or Slimkat on my S3 for as long as I can remember. Is Touchwiz more than just a launcher? I've been using nova launcher and would like to continue to use it. Do Sprint stores have the S7 on display yet?

Well, if you want to switch to Fi then your only option is the 6P; AFAIK Project Fi currently only works on the 2014 and 2015 Nexus models (so the 6, 5x, and 6p).

I mean, I'm a Nexus guy so I'll always lean in that direction but Samsung/Touchwiz isn't the utter dumpster fire some would make it out to be. I don't like it, but most of my friends use Galaxys and they look at me weird when I try to explain the difference between my Android phone and theirs.

To answer your earlier question though. Touchwiz is more than a launcher; it's a full OS-wide reskinning and reworking. The notification bar/shade is different, the system menu is different, they put in their own SMS app (and used to put in their own web browser, not sure if they still do that), their own camera app, and so forth. You can still use Nova Launcher, as you can any launcher from the app store (including the official Google Launcher).

Well, i looked long and hard at the Nexus 6p and preordered the S7 Edge. Got myself the Gear S2 watch for free AND they cut the service bill on it to 5$ a month for me. They also let me keep my old tablet on the line and took off the 10$ monthly service fee for that. So, all in all, ill be paying 79 a month after taxes including the Next price on the phone.

Now, i just have to hope i get my phone sooner rather than later so i can push for the free VR headset from samsung. They are limiting it to the first 300K only and T-mobile has been sending out the phones for almost a week.
