I mean soldiers in a normal war wouldn't wanna be on the front lines with a bunch of guns or cannons shooting at you either, which is why you train your soldiers to follow orders.

Definitely dead men walking though, for sure.

You keep the other, smaller chaos mans busy until a gryphon soars into big chaos dude's face and rips his eyeballs out or whatever.

Fighting magic and monsters is easier when you have them on your own side too!

...I think the absolutely worst thing I ever saw(pretty sure it was in 5th possibly 6th) was a Bloodthirster rear charging a unit of Skaven slaves and managing to lose the combat. It didn't die and, assuming its absolutely horrific luck hadn't continued, likely would have killed them in a later round if the game time hadn't run out(friendly basement game, so it was a literal someone needed to leave) but it's still the most horribly off thing I've ever seen. I don't think they even wounded it, it just could not break a 2 on its attacks. The Bloodthirster causing even a single wound to the slaves in that situation would likely have won the combat, and given these were slaves they probably would have routed.

A horse attacked me once. For no reason. Bit me on the shoulder and shook me around like a predator trying to break the prey's neck. gently caress horses.

The Empire isn't anywhere close to the brutal, dictatorial, racist poo poo-show the Imperium of Man is. The Empire is actually pretty progressive and they treat their dudes pretty well, although if you happen to get exposed to warpstone or Chaos magic and grow a third eye you will be burned at the stake (for your own good).

The closest you come, really, is the Warrior Priests of Sigmar. They're there to lead the men in battle and inspire them to greater heights though, not hammer men who flee in the face of terrors.

Witch Hunters are definitely more homicidal but from what I recall in the fiction they weren't nearly as common as the Sigmarites and rarely led or accompanied troops into battle.

Witch Hunters are more like Inquisitors. They travel around looking for signs of corruption and witchcraft and deal with any they find. Being Warhammer, their competency ranges from "will spend weeks in careful detective work to root out the true source of the problem" to "gently caress it, burn everyone who looks a bit odd".

Lassitude
Oct 21, 2003

They're less crazy than inquisitors though, because they need to justify their actions to the local authorities. They might torch a village if they discover the villagers were complicit in hiding mutants or something, but they'll need to tell that to the local governor when he comes by asking why he has one fewer village to send him taxes/merch/recruits. It makes the whole thing decidedly less over-the-top than inquisitors can be.

Hell, i've got friends who work with unruly horses as part of their jobs. An angry horse is scary enough, but an angry Destrier?

It took five of us to even get the courage to go near it. Medieval cav was no loving joke.

I once saw a video of a horse loving up a pitbull that attacked it. It was simply merciless.

Also a horse once tried to eat a friend of mine's shirt.

Don't gently caress with horses. Bastards were bred for killing dudes long before they did farm work. Though they were probably originally domesticated for mare's milk and later for pulling wagons for nomadic people, then the wagons became war chariots then steppe nomads made horses that could bear a rider and made saddles that could keep him in place, then the killing lasted until the 19th century.
