First time I try the final mission: it crashes. It also resets the enemies I should expect to see so instead of mutons it's berserkers and faceless, and more of them.
Second time I try the final mission: Concealment automatically breaks despite not being seen, on the first move phase I have.

That doesn't bode well.

e: Third time they detect me through a wall without moving. Half of my squad is still concealed.

Speaking of those towers, can you only hack one per mission? I haven't gotten super deep into the game yet, but every time a map has more than one tower I don't seem to get a hack prompt for any tower(s) after the first I hack.

Why can invisible chryssalids spawn on the same two turns as five sectoids, two andromedons, two archons, and two avatars. Why Solomon.

e: Oh neat, fanfire has a bug where the stock on your sniper applies to the first shot of fanfire. I keep hitting avatars for 2 damage despite missing 3 times, and I have an advanced stock equipped.

OK, got my rear end handed on Veteran twice. Better ask for help. Any good beginner tips/guides out there? I tried searching the thread but got a lot of bungled posts :( also, some videos to watch or something because I apparently I am much worse now than I ever was at xcom:eu :v:

(Also why the gently caress Bradford talks so much and animations take so long? Resistance defense missions are the worst because of those things)

Commander down! In the end I had 23 flawless missions and 5 soldier deaths (a few pretty high ones too, and at a bad time since I had one captured unit too). I just barely killed the last avatar as mecs, a un-stasis'd andromedon, vipers, and faceless flooded the arena. My gatekeeper landed the final shot.

I don't think I'm going to try Legendary, the double timers don't sound too fun, but I think I will install a fuckton of gameplay mods and dick around now, and wait for the dlc. Though maybe not that much, the final mission brought my computer to 60C and I think the graphics driver was about to fail at the very end. They really need to work on that final mission. :v:

If it weren't for Dark Souls 3 coming out next month I'd probably just go ahead and call XCOM 2 my goty. It's so good.



e: Only reloaded for really buggy stuff. Even not doing that, it's really hard to outright fail missions unless the game does that double-kill civs thing on retaliations. You can usually suicide run an objective and toss a mimic beacon.

Man, getting shaken is a bitch to remove.

I thought I was about to get it removed from my best ranger as I was doing the first black site. She's already had a kill and is doing fine. She one-shots a viper around the corner, part the last pod. None of the other members of it can see her. The blast scorches some of the surrounding wall.

Then, at the start of the next turn, she catches fire from the wall and I don't have anything to remove it with.

Oh, I get it. Burning enemies have their melee attacks disabled. That's why the hellfire armor weave blocks melee attacks by burning enemies.

Explosives solve every problem and psi troopers are hysterically overpowered.

Sometimes things like that or even overwatch don't occur until after the action, for whatever reason. It's a bug.

I've been sitting here for 5 mins trying to think of a joke to make but I just realised the animators of Mass Effect already did it for me

Only mission I outright loss I think I've had (as opposed to Pyrrhic victory that prompted a New Game, I guess) was one of the tutorial missions when I started on commander, because I got really unlucky and could not reach the objective in time (had no specialists and everyone who got close got killed), which, as it turns out, is a game over if you fail it in the tutorial!

Man, late game "protect the device" missions are always such a bitch on Legend. This one started out with a Gatekeeper attacking the device from turn 1 for 11 damage a shot at the very far end of the map. I got a "flawless" mission failure, killing 18 aliens in 9 turns:

1 Gatekeeper
2 Andromedons
3 Archons
5 Heavy Mechs
2 Shieldbearers
2 Adv. troopers
2 Adv. officers
1 Heavy Lancer

I pulled most of that on the 3rd turn except for the GK, 1 shieldbearer, the heavy lancer, and an advanced trooper that were camped in the back pummeling the device. I MC'd one of the Andromedons and ran it back there to try to keep them busy with limited success. As I was trying to advance and engage them with the rest of my squad is when I had the reinforcements drop all the way back at the spawn point behind me with 2 of the heavy mechs and 1 officer.

Missed 3 point blank flanking shots with the MC'd Andromedon on a 3hp shieldbearer before he was overcome by alien firepower and turned on me. But that was good enough, or so I thought. Rapid Fired down the Andromedon bot and put the Untouchable'd ranger in position to draw enemy fire until the rest of the squad caught up. Last 3 mobs: panic'd the advanced trooper, gatekeeper goes for a flank on the ranger and wastes a shot on Untouchable, then the goddamn last mob with a turn before he gets merc'd...that loving 3 HP shieldbearer...runs up past the ranger and takes the last 2 HP off the device for a mission failure. Advanced Breakthrough dark event immediately triggers on the failure, 2 pips back on doom clock and countdown begins again (thankfully I have a blacksite within reach)

Doesn't Ignore Missing Content have a button on the pause menu to do that? (which just won't show up if you're using, say, the Bronzeman mod that also overrides the pause menu and oh god this is Skyrim modding all over again isn't it?)

I really recommend early-mid Psi to anyone who's interested. GTS > Workshop > optimal excavations > power > Psi Lab. You can go for armor or mag weapons and still unlock psi just before you're done with the power. Plan ahead and you can upgrade the lab immediately. It's really good without gutting your ability to expand like immediate psi would.

Even early game took me off guard, since like they just go for the device no matter what, I've had aliens ignore flanks to kill the device. This is a good and bad thing obviously, but it took me by surprise first time I saw it happen.

It might? I think that the Restart Mission Button mod just re-enables a button that's already in the game so it might not do anything like this (but isn't it still broken so it removes all non-default gear when you try and use it? That's why I don't use the mod anymore and use Bronzeman instead.)

Reaper seems to combine nicely with Face-Off or anything that does a lot of damage to multiple enemies, like Void Rift.
