It's one of the hardest eras to go back to For me I never had a probably going back to early 3D, I'll take going back to PS1 any day over trying to parse the original Elite or Wizardry games. Early CRPGs are nigh impenetrable.

The game is a disaster in pretty much every sense of the word and the literal only way to play it without wanting to kill yourself is to use its zany mechanics against it. Gabriel Pope did a pretty entertaining LP of FF2 a few years back showing that the game can be your bitch if you know how to rip it apart from the inside out. It's a good read.

Is that wonderswan or whatever update of 2 they released along with the update of 1 any good? Or is it like FF3 for DS where they were too faithful to the original and it kinda sucks.

Some review of Garden Warfare 2 made the connection between it and early fps multi-player games like Unreal Tournament, and drat if that hits the nail on the head. I can either play online, or open up the robust-enough single player content with bots that earnestly feels like both training and content.

The irony of all ironies, FF11 has taken cues from 14, and also added a better system for solo play, so you can actually play start to end by yourself. It has a decent storyline, if a bit tedious, but a ton of the grind and mandatory party elements are history. Still open to subscription, as well, though rather sparse of players from what I hear, they consolidated a lot of servers. I have been a zombie all week and surviving work by subsisting on all things caffeinated mostly because Stardew Valley ate into sleep time, and I regret nothing, because the gaming is good.
