I learned the other day what the difference between Lionel Richie and Billy Dee Williams is, and that the person who played Lando Calrissian is not the same person who sung "Hello."

But what kind? There's acoustic, electric, acousto-electric, 6-string, 7-string, 8-string, 12-string, etc.!

More seriously, I want to specifically know every hand-crafted detail of the specific guitar they are playing. Was it made at 12 past 5, or 14 past 5? It matters.

In the Hearts of Stone dlc for Witcher 3 theres one character who sounds like she's calling Geralt "Puss Papers". If I had been playing with captions this would have been immediately cleared up but it took me an embarassingly long time to realize she was actually saying peepers. After figuring that out I still had to think about it to make the connection.

puss peepers = cat eyes

I have a theory that the guys from MST3K/Rifftrax deliberately mispronounce words to get angry fan letters or that the Midwest is just utterly horrible at pronunciation.

Every single ep has some horribly mangled words or the emphasis is just so far off that they may have never spoken or heard spoken the words in question.

I'm pretty sure in the Caustic Soda podcast they intentionally mispronounce 'debris' as 'debriss' just for the angry comments.

I just heard "The World I Know" by Collective Soul and realized that the song is in fact called "The World I Know" and that is what he is singing in the song. I don't think I have heard the song for a long time but for some reason I thought he was singing:

'Cause it's the one armed man
It's the one armed man

And that it was part of the soundtrack for The Fugitive film.

No joke... I must have come up with this when I was a kid and never really thought about it again until today. I really wish I had been right though, that would be pretty amusing.

Don't feel too bad. It took me like 10 years to figure out England Dan & John Ford Coley's I'd Really Love To See You Tonight's lyrics were "I'm not talking 'bout moving in
And I don't want to change your life
But there's a warm wind blowing
The stars are out and I'd really love to see you tonight"

Old dorky song I guess but I could not figure out "'bout moving in" for the life of me.

Misheard Lyrics:
"I not talking about the linen."
Original Lyrics:
"I'm not talking 'bout moving in"

Some singers are just bad at enunciating, is my excuse.

It's so common to mishear phrases in poems and songs that there's a specific word for it: "mondegreen."

Mondegreens are the best. I also thought that guy was talking about the linen. And I got a lot of other songs wrong:

  • "pre-notice on your home loan type records" The Motown Song - Rod Stewart
  • "Big old Jack and Lino. Don't care if he too far away" Jet Airliner - Steve Miller Band
  • "lay me down in sheets of lead" Tiny Dancer - Elton John
  • "but the jailor's not my son" Billy Jean - Michael Jackson

Now I hate the song. I liked the line "...one winged dove..." and now the song sucks.

It's like the line from "Walkin' on the Sun" (Don't judge, it was the '90s). I always thought the line was "You need to be there when your baby's old enough to be laid." I thought, wow, that's a profound thought! How would I feel when my daughter becomes sexually active? Then I read the lyrics and never listened to Smash Mouth again.

On that note, when I was little I thought the line in Pink Floyd's The Wall was "no Dukes of Hazzard in the classroom" which made sense at the time to a young me because I figured I would get in trouble for doing Bo and Luke stuff in school.

I'm pretty sure the song's actual message (that the war on drugs is dumb and demonizes stuff like marijuana at the same level as crack cocaine) is much better and was far far far more relevant to the 90s than pontificating about "the sex talk".

Smash Mouth's lead singer is really bad at enunciating though, such that I always thought the line "field heat sneakin' up on me" in "Come on, Come on" was "Bill Gates sneakin' up on me."
