I watched that, realized that after naming my first generation of ships after real historical people, I can start naming them after awesome statesmen and scientists of my own empire, and I had to close the video because it's just self-torture now.

Heh, managed to see the video, game is looking good! Will definitely play it. But warp capable spaceships should zap out of a system when they reach the edge, instead of just disappearing.

It's a low res screenshot taken from a video, pretty hard to judge how nice it looks from that. Development started May 2013 apparently.

Well I'm glad I got to watch the whole thing. It's hilarious that his science ship just blew itself up so we didn't get to see the early storyline, you could tell he wasn't expecting a critical failure. It looks really good, I can't wait to play it.

I'm watching the stream now and while there are a whole lot of substantial things that really look great I'd just like to take a second and give the devs a heartfelt thanks for calling Earth "Earth" and not "Terra" like every other stupid sci-fi thing.

Man there's gonna be poo poo to do on every moon and planet in every system in the galaxy? Or at least things to build in their slots. Planetary/regional governors hooooo.

Some other small details that may or may not have made it into the DDs: - There are black hole systems (not mentioned, just on the galactic map). - It's really hard to terraform a planet, and the dev says he hates game where the player owns every single planet in every single solar system the end of the game. "So every planet should be precious and unique." - You can uplift species that like living on certain planets as a way to colonize planets that your own POP wont like, but that means a) uplifting them and b) incorporating them into your empire. - You can also use robots to colonize planets. - Fallen Empires wont generally expand unless something "wakes them up." - "Alien" version of sprawling slum tiles on planets could be aggressive alien flora and fauna that you have to research in order to deal with, or a sinkhole tile that could spawn a creature or something later in the game. - There are victory conditions, unlike EU4/CK2: conquest, victory as a federation, archaeological victory (uncover the secrets of the ancients), and others being worked on

That's a great way to make tech victory more interesting than in most 4Xs. If you want to make an omelet you have to wake up a few ancient horrors.

So I found an interesting bug in EU4. I saved the game while in 'observe' via console commands. On the title screen I hit 'continue game' and loaded in as observer. It immediately gave me the game over screen, I clicked on Spectate and I got all the controls you would when spectating a MP match. Except when ever I spectate a country using the controls I can control them as if I had just tag switched via console. The AI of the country is still active though, so they're fighting against my changes, but I can order troops around, change policies, basically anything you can do if you were actually playing them. Yeah after watching the video this really seem like a great change to the 4x genre, I will probably preorder as soon as it gets available since Paradox has earned my trust ever since the release of CK2. I also hope that one of the galactic invasions will be space aztecs.
