I am doing some finishing touches type stuff to the final draft right now but after I've got that out of the way, the Giant and the other backer playbooks (Remnant, Dragon, Constructed) will be the top of my priorities list. With the changes to the core rules between when I made the Giant draft and now, it's going to be getting a lot more changes than just adding an extra move to it. I'm looking over this old draft and seeing like a dozen little things that need changing. I'll try and get a new Giant draft out soon for ya. Probably within a week from now.

@Everyone: go re-download the files from the Final Draft update, I updated them with bookmarked PDFs and some formatting fixes.

I think the playbook PDF is screwed up, it has some customs listed at the bottom of the basic move third of the page.

A couple of them didn't fit properly in their column while also keeping the larger font size.

It's pretty confusing, I had to double check to be sure they weren't core moves out of nowhere.

That's fair. I have updated the file in the link again, now with partitions for those moves on The Orc and The Heir.

Important Fellowship news: we have drafts of the last few art pieces for the main book, coming in hot. https://twitter.com/Veliministriari/status/709214997977636869 https://twitter.com/Veliministriari/status/709251416116879360 These paintings being finished are the last thing standing between PDF release, and then we begin the process of waiting on printing proofs of the book. gnome7 fucked around with this message at 07:00 on Mar 14, 2016 |

I'll comment that the Overlord changes threw me for a loop since I'll have to refit my existing game but they're overall a real improvement. Also I had to improvise since I lost a couple of players and had another take a hiatus for college work which led to me recruiting two new players which I started at level one. As a result there's a quite uneven level range in my game but it works out okay I guess. Levels aren't as crucial as in D&D for example.

When it says "direct action" against a threat to the world, what does that mean? I had assumed it meant "to attack, stall, persuade, etc face-to-face, or at least via direct means such as live over a communication system", but it mentions a "thinky - planny" general will force people to pay prices every time they act against their plans; does this mean, for example, if the overlord has set the army to attack a city, the PCs have to pay a price every time they try and stop the army, too? Or even just once to start the attempt? I'm not sure what the limits are on "direct actions" with the advice on p 189.

Your initial assumption is correct - it's when you act against the Threat to the World personally. EDIT: Yeah basically this entire page is redundant now that the Generals move better describes how to make one already. I'll keep this section in but it needs a hard re-write. gnome7 fucked around with this message at 15:21 on Mar 14, 2016 |

Is there a list of third-party playbooks quite yet? I'm not sure how many exist, but I've heard of the Mask, and wanted to see if there were any others going around quite yet.

I had another thought: If the general or overlord is present as a direct commander of forces, does it count as acting against them to interfere with their will? For example, a general saying "Guards, seize them!", when you don't want them to be seized?

spectralent posted:I had another thought: If the general or overlord is present as a direct commander of forces, does it count as acting against them to interfere with their will? For example, a general saying "Guards, seize them!", when you don't want them to be seized? No. In the old version of the rules, the answer would've been yes, but with the new version of Threat to the World you only pay a price when actively dealing with the Threat to the World itself. In your example, the players are only dealing with minions, not the General themselves, even if they are acting on the General's orders. So even though they might be trying to Get Away from them, they're trying to escape the General's minions at that time, so they will not pay a price. If the General tries to go in an seize the players themselves, rather than rely on their incompetent guards, then the fellowship would need to pay a price to try to Get Away or any other move they make, because now they're opposing a Threat to the World. The TttW needs to be personally involved to trigger the payment.

I heartily endorse both concepts, though, and am just going to officially state that creating and publishing/selling such playbooks is alright with me. I kinda ditched the mask concept because I found out the core move was a poorly written version of the halfling's one on a different stat. I was poking around with reworking it into the Outsider, who's your kain/sasuke/han solo based around being willing to be antiheroic and a little bit darker, but I need to sort out the core move's consequences and the gear, and figured I'd wait for the final version. The idea right now is to give them a special stat based on being Dark, what is basically Go Aggro from apocalypse world and some sort of buff when having the stat damaged, to represent being nice for once. Unfortunately this is hard and I have videogames. I don't know if it'll ever end up as good as I want it to be, but I'm really happy with the bonds move replacing the Mask itself. Tsundere: For whatever reason, you don't like people to get close to you, and try to keep your distance from them. Other characters, excluding the Overlord, can only have a maximum of one bond with you. However, you have no such restriction towards them. So "help me get them" would work (I'm picturing the guards moving to cut off the exits while the general goes to grab them)? EDIT: Tsundere should be a bonus to helping people in a scene where you break a bond with them and a penalty in a scene where you've made a bond with them. Or make the move "Just passing through", perhaps. spectralent fucked around with this message at 22:32 on Mar 15, 2016 |

spectralent posted:So "help me get them" would work (I'm picturing the guards moving to cut off the exits while the general goes to grab them)? Yeah. Whenever the General is the one they are acting directly against, they must pay a price first. That said, they wouldn't pay a price for everything they do in that scenario - if a player or two went to clear out the guards and make a path out while the rest held off the General, the ones dealing with the minions are not dealing with a Threat to the World and will not have to pay a price. Basically, when a player is making a move, ask yourself if the one they're making it against is the General/Overlord or if it is something else. If the move is not actually against the General or the Overlord, then they do not have to pay the price to make that move.

Things my group did in the game I just ran 1. Fired the halfling out of a cannon so he could fistfight a renegade space angel 2. Said halfling tore around on a bear yelling about how great he was until villagers asked the party meekly to stop him 3. Threw a flashbang in the Overlord's face immediately after his "I'm doing this for the greater good" monologue and made off with his sword in the confusion 4. Arranged for the Overlord to sit in mashed potatoes immediately after his "I'll get you next time" monologue 5. Other things This is a Good Game.

Has anyone made fillable pdf versions of the playbook yet? If not, is there any objection to my doing so? Is the version in the last update final or should I wait a bit before starting this?

I am still missing some artwork, so the dwarf, heir, and squire playbooks have filler art pieces, as does one of the Overlord pages. The rules-text is basically complete, though, and at most will have minor wording changes if I catch something weird. I have no objection with someone making them form-fillable, but I'd give it a week or so. Maddi is finishing the last few paintings this week.
