These are awesome! I've always wanted a pet Hallucigenia. vvv Yep, the ocean has always been weird. The one with the "trunk" is Opabinia, and the one with the two proboscis' is Anomalocaris vvv Gynocentric Regime has a new favorite as of 08:31 on May 5, 2016 |

Wait, you're telling me those things were real at one point? Man, I guess even in the past the ocean was weird.

You should look up how the anomalocaris was discovered, it rules. They originally thought it was three separate creatures. Primordial sea creatures rule

Right to left, top to bottom. "Miss Yuuukaaa!" "Look at this! I'm raising a dog!" "Woof. (Master, I am filled with hunger. Present tribute to me immediately...)" "Woof. (If you do not, then the maleficent judgment of Apophis, ancient embodiment of evil, shall be upon your head...)" "Whiiiine. (This is delectable.)" "Isn't he cute..." "Woof. (Master, I am perforce coming outside with you. Be that as it may, if you insist, I will not refuse to participate in your exercise or what-have-you.)" "(If you refuse this, then the ancient embodiment of evil, Apophi-...)" Sound effects in the last panel is clap clap and SNAP.

C.M. Kruger posted:So weird we don't know what end of the Hallucigenia was the butt. And they used to think the spines were it's legs. iirc we're vaguely certain we've got it right now, but yeah, historically we reconstructed this one upside down and back to front. An awful lot of the Cambrian fauna fossils are just outlines of the shape of these animals, and it can be very difficult to work out exactly what they are or which way round they should go because (as you can see from the pictures) a lot of the animals don't look enough like contemporary species to provide any guidelines for how they looked when they were alive. If you go further back still, you find the Edicarian biota, which are kind of blobby shapes that scientists aren't entirely sure are animals or plants or something else.

Googling that username was a mistake, it's like Lisa Frank had a child that liked to draw cats being chopped in half. Not where I expected to end up from a picture of Bubsy. Maybe add a big [TERRIBLE PERSON] warning in the future if you're going to post names.

So they are made uncomfortable by Bubsy but not bisected cats. Have they tried drawing a bisected Bubsy?
