$169 plus shipping lmao. like, it's just a couple mounting brackets and an enclosure right? not seeing anything unique about rounding out a shell.

Todd and the Book of Pure Evil was a Canadian TV show that I thought was pretty great, so when they did a kickstarter in summer 2013,i was in. Turns out what they needed wasn't 75k,but actually 750k, which the government of Canada gave them... https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/todd-the-book-of-pure-evil-the-end-of-the-end#/

Mulva posted:20140361671 just FYI those are patent application pre-grant publications. basically just whatever Apple filed in their initial applications. they haven't been examined and confer no legal right to prevent someone else from making the things in them (although it is generally a bad idea to do so because a patent might issue on the subject matter). there are so many special snowflake or novelty pc case applications filed every year that there is probably plenty of prior art out there.

i'm not sure about putting chips in everything on one hand, people's items could be a lot less disposable. imagine buying a nice umbrella cause you're sure you won't lose it thanks to the connectedness and you have it for life, never buying a new one. on the other hand, the price of the chips is going to go way down and people will be making coffee cups that connect to wifi and poo poo, and the amount of e-waste might just go up

PleasureKevin posted:i don't know for sure, but if you can get things started by raising 75k, maybe you're more likely to get the grant? yup, basically entities like the fmc will help you with a grant/loan but always require that you put some of your own money. i haven't worked with the fmc on a film production basis, but if it's anything like the experimental programs they have, you need to stake 25% and they'll stake up to 75% on a loan basis there's a crapload of other programs available on provincial and federal levels, but to my knowledge pretty much every one of them requires at least a 10% producer participation

yes, we're a real company with real income and real money and kickstarter was just about building press and buzz. it actually really helped. we're able to get into some pretty major deals and areas now simply because google and the press are on our side the product had actually been shipping for a good few months, we just put in a few extra touches for the ks release and lined shipment up with a major prod run & os upgrade
