ayn rand hand job posted:its only like 20% of their valuation There's a world of difference between valuation and the liquid assets they'd have to put into escrow. I know Denton was said to be worth $250m at one point but I don't know how much he's worth now, how much of that was based on his "media empire" and how much he had in actual assets. They might not be able to appeal just based on not financially being able to.

To put it another way, Vince McMahon is a billionaire, but he doesn't have a billion in liquid capital. Neither does Denton, to a lesser degree.

So to recap: Gawker media is a loser because they're going to go out of business Hulk Hogan is a loser because he got his privacy horrifically violated *AND* he's not going to probably actually see any money in the end The judge is a loser because of their hilarious and flagrant bias America is a loser because of our joke of a legal system The lawyers on both sides are winners, because billable hours y'all.

keevo posted:Why wouldn't Hulk end up seeing any of that money? For one, because the amount is going to be horrifically slashed on appeal if not thrown out altogether. For another, because I very much doubt Gawker can scrape up that much liquid cash even if they go bankrupt and sell all their poo poo. For a third, because the lawyers will take so much of it that he'll probably have just about enough to buy a sandwich when all the thrashing is over sometime in 2019.
