The Steam Tanks were made by this one inventor hundreds of years ago, and of the twelve originally built only nine remain today. Don't think we'll be having anything like the battle of kurtsk, but maybe you could get more than one in a battle? E: on the tablemat though your tanks are your only thing that can actually handle big monsters like Giants, typically by running into them like a killer roomba. They have a neat breath weapon, and have the same cannon as your artillery pieces so they can deal the hurt, and you honestly should take as many as you can, definitely worth the high cost. Forget steam tanks. We'll know they've gone Full Awesome when they introduce The 'Marienburg' Class Land Battle Ship (The Wonder of the Age). It's a ship with wheels strapped to it. It has a cannon it can fire in melee combat, a crew armed with pistols, and zero fucks.

Speaking of Nagash and since my WHFB knowledge is from before Tomb Kings/VC, which faction does Necromancers and Nagash belong to?

Nagash is long dead and only comes back in the End Times rubbish. Necromancers work for the Vampire Counts and one of them is a Lord Character for the VC army. Tomb Kings hate necromancers and vampires and kill any they catch.

The best (worst) thing about Age of Sigmar names is that it's really hard to tell which ones are real and which ones some SA goon made up as satire.

I was flicking through some old armybooks and wondering what ever happened to hobgoblins and half-orcs? Did they specifically get written out of the setting or just quietly dropped? I have a vague memory of hobgoblins coming back as a Dogs of War unit in the early 00s or something.

Hobgoblins were a Dogs of War units, but in the fluff most of them were slaves of the Chaos Dwarves, so mostly disappeared with them.

I kind of like that towards the end of Fantasy Orcs weren't even explicitly fungus. They were just there. Like any sufficiently lovely area could spawn Orcs when it isn't being observed. Orcy action at a distance, if you will.

Why wouldn't the Empire raise pike regiments of their own if they needed them? Presumably they prefer halberds to pikes for a reason. I imagine blocks of halberdiers are more tactically flexible and mobile than blocks of pikemen, and they're better able to fight in melee if a mob of orks smashes into and disrupts the organization of the block.
