Even though it was unfinished and laggy I want to play this again when I get home but it's gone My approval of games early in development is basically the kiss of death so don't get too attached.

There's a public test on Saturday if you wanted to dick around in a desert and kill nerds this weekend. I'll be busy moving.

I like the idea of characters getting their abilities from a combination of a weapon set and armor set--that's an interesting way to do that. For anyone who's played around in the tests, does it work out well in practice?

Oh wow I got caught up in Chinagame 3.0 for a bit there and haven't been participating as much in the tests recently. Now that that's done I guess I'll be jumping back in. Yes the weapon/armor skills have worked pretty well in the tests I've done. It's painless to swap sets, so you're free to experiment, and it manages a pretty decent balance between having identifiable roles and cusomizability. Now, the actual balance has swung around a lot, but that's kind of to be expected.

Wait, Chinagame 3.0? I quit Chinagame because I got fed up with Tencent's bullshit and lovely servers. What's Chinagame 3.0

1.0 -> Wushu 2.0 -> Swordsman 3.0 -> Moonlight Blade Moonlight Blade is only in chinese, and only has servers in china, so I wouldn't recommend it to most people. There aren't really goons playing, it was just a summer fling.

Test is starting in a few minutes. I'm not trying to organize anything, but feel free to jump in anyway.

Well this test seems a bit more solid. They have a proper launcher, the map is bigger/prettier, and theres not a huge zerg rolling around.

I played for a couple minutes and it does look a lot more polished and try exactly the same. I got killed by a guy with the same staff robe set up as me but he had made better gear I guess because he had way more health and a bunch of crazy spells.

I've been staggering the alphas I test on, to keep from burning out before we get a launch. Haven't jumped into this one yet. It has though been getting slowly more polished, and is looking more like a game than a tech demo at this point. Gear still isn't that important last I checked. Having a full skillbar and having those skills upgraded is very noticeable though. The guy you fought probably didn't have too much more health than you, he was just doing more damage to you. Upgrading skills are the only way to get more damage on them, not gear. I'm still waiting for the beta to make a games thread to start selling this again.

How long was this test supposed to last, anyhow?

I believe it lasts to the 31st.

Oh, well then. I've been messing around with leather/staff and joined a clan named Random Acts of Violence, my IGN is Jackard What does gear even do?

I think they've tweaked the crafting system a little since I last played, but it's for min-maxing other attributes. They can affect max hp, max mp, speed, cc reduction, cd time, cast time, physical or magic resistance. If you want to pump one stat you have to take a penalty in another though. Higher level gear increases the maximum you can pump or dump from a stat. I think they might have added a really small flat bonus to high level gear a while ago too, but not anything that was noticeable.

Why does clicking Apply do nothing here:
|
# ? Mar 22, 2016 01:53 |
|
What are you trying to do exactly? Upgrade your skills some? I don't have the game in front of me right now, but I think there may be a limit to how many skill upgrades you can have total, based on your level. I'll have to go check that. In other news: I know we joke that games like this are libertarian paradises, but last night in the official voip I chatted for a while with a guy who works for an objectivist thinktank. He certainly had some interesting political beliefs.

# ? Mar 22, 2016 17:32 |

It's inconsistent, but sometimes the game refuses to swap your abilities at the dojo, and clicking "Apply" gives no feedback whatsoever.
|
# ? Mar 22, 2016 17:47 |

Hmm, probably a bug then. TI'd say try to see if there's a pattern and report it.

In case anyone's still watching, there's going to be a larger alpha test in July, and if you sign up before June 15, you're guaranteed access. You can sign up on their front page. There's also some release-copies of the game you can win by either (1) joining a big clan and winning a diceroll when it's over or (2) cheeseing one of the other point systems that aren't implemented very well.

forge posted:I read the OP and thought this was a thread about Albion Online. How is this different? It takes place in a brown desert. Also, this is a total gankbox. At least Albion has a bunch of content that isn't based around killing whoever you see. Alexander DeLarge fucked around with this message at 22:38 on May 25, 2016 |

That's entirely untrue. It also has snow now! But yes it is mostly about fighting people over various things. I never played Albion so I can't really compare and contrast.

Thread rez. I guess I signed up for the alpha. I received an invite saying they are running a two week alpha test in July. If you sign up before June 15 you get in, I guess.

Problem is the content mostly consists of waiting in a circle, fighting over a circle and ambushing travelers

Yeah right now they're lacking in event variety. They're mostly king-of-the-hill type events, with one escort type event. Stuff that's more capture-the-flag or search-and-destroy should be coming eventually. The dev lead mentioned something he called "fight club" he has in the works, that involves opting in to a system that assigns you to random other op-ins who can now see each other on the map, and then set out to murder each other. I'm hoping it turns out highlander style. Pretty much everything in the game exists to goad people into fighting each other though, by design. And that's pretty ok, because the fighting's gotten really fun lately. We just recently had a special 2 hour session testing the new CC system, and we just fought over nothing trying builds and interactions and poo poo. It was a blast. The combat itself is fun enough I enjoy doing it for it's own sake.

There was an alpha this weekend and I had no desire to log in so I missed it This is one of those games you really need a crew to roll with and I don't have one.

For updates, it's playing on a new larger map. They got a new swamp biome, so with that and snow biome the thread title's kind of a misnomer now. New weapon set (spear/shield) that I haven't played around with much. Game runs smoother now too, I get decent framerates in fights. I log in sporadically for balance tests and to tell the devs things that goons will definitely exploit if given the chance. It's fun by yourself in small doses but you do need a good group of guys to get everything out of the game. Still not pushing for goon presence until beta though. e: Oh they redid how CC resistance works now too. Before it was % reduction, now it's all or nothing. When your determination bar fills up from getting hit by CC, you get temporary CC immunity and then it resets. This was done because time to kill can be rather long, and fights were having CC become useless by the end. Pavlov fucked around with this message at 20:07 on Jul 19, 2016 |

I got an alpha key. Which US server is for East and which one for West or which one has more people?
|
# ? Jul 22, 2016 20:19 |

They are both probably hosted in the same place. Chinook was the original US server this test though, with the other added later, so it's probably more populous.

Got an email saying they thought the name Das Tal was not generic enough so they changed it to The Exiled.
|
# ? Aug 17, 2016 00:56 |

Haha wow, yeah that's pretty generic. I hear 'Das Tal' sounds just about as dorky in german though. Probably not going to help with their name recognition though.
|
# ? Aug 17, 2016 03:31 |

Isn't The Exile the name of the new Conan the Barbarian survival game by FunCom? All that name recognition down the toilet because they wanted to change the name (to something incredibly generic) after getting tons of press lmao good luck to them I guess

I forgot the best part of the email. They paid some marketing firm or something like that to come up with the name. They paid actual money for someone to use a thesaurus.
