DJ Dizzy posted:Nuhuh. At any rate, lexicanum describes the wolves losses as being "moderate", so anywhere from 25-50% casualties. I'm assuming they didnt have an easy time with the two other legions they forcibly hosed either. Which book is AL vs SW in btw? Scars. I just finished it, was a fun enough read.

BULBASAUR posted:That's exactly it. DA are probably one of the coolest loyalist legions because of all that backstory. I always thought of them as loyalist Sons of Horus, mostly since the Lion was first runner up for who got the Warmaster job. However, both legions have a combined arms style that favors pragmatism over sticking to a set style of fighting, both loooove their vets and terminators, and they have a nice contrast where the Sons tended to have good relationships with all the other legions (even the ones everyone else hated) while the DA always wanted to be off doing their own thing.

Mango Polo posted:It definitely feels a little like a relic of the initial heresy vision, what with everyone having their own traitors. I imagine the Black Library will eventually get around to re-explaining it. Also the current 30k books, which explain that every legion was so huge that there inevitably were traitors from every loyalist legion, and loyalists from every traitor legion. In Unremembered Empire, there's even a loyalist Word Bearer who still worships the Emperor as a god and regards Lorgar and friends as heretics.

The two Death Guard novellas (Daemonology and Distant Echoes of Old Night) were good plane reads. Prince of Crows was also pretty entertaining.

I agree they are played out. I feel another step towards terra needs to occur. I like the big events like the word bearers attack on the ultramarines but a lot of the novels deal with small groups and vague situations compounded by weaker authors. Can I ask if anyone has particular knowledge of the new age of darkness red book? If I buy it will it have the rite of war specified to play an all dreadnought list?

It's not like it'd be hard to just find the text of the RoW somewhere. It's like a few paragraphs/bullet points, tops.

I get that it is only a few points but I was hoping to have the rules for all the additional dreads that have co e out since the first HH book which is the only one I have presently. I will just pony up for the new book like as not. I am intending to build up a cult list as well which will require the book the contains them too. I love reading them so it is not a problem.

So is the new age of darkness book not the go to single book for marines then? Or is there no such thing. I was holding out for it under that impression.

nopantsjack posted:So is the new age of darkness book not the go to single book for marines then? Or is there no such thing. Marines have two red books: one for the generic, legion-wide content and a second for the legion-specific content. The latter is what was recently updated, the former's update is expected some time this year (with some changes to assault and destroyer squads in particular, woo!)
