Good grief, yes you are right - You can basically call Reddit's layout a GUI BBS. And to be honest, I was on more readable BBS' in the 80's than that Reddit clusterfuck

Who else remembers '90s Perl-based forums like WWWBoard that basically look and act the same as mailing list archives?

(also sorta surprised but not that Matt's Script Archive is still alive)

Slashdot is another example, though it's been updated significantly over the years.

I kinda like the threaded format, it works really well for some kinds of discussions.

Slashdot tho, the user can modify how it's displayed to taste and ease of reading. Even in threaded mode, it's still a lot easier to follow and understand than Reddit

The absolute worst thing about reddit (apart from the users) is when clicking a thread link, and it's an external link, it doesn't even open in a new tab or bring me to the thread itself. So I have to middle click everything and then clickon the comments to read the thread comments.

And rotten.com was doing that in the '90s. These are not groundbreaking moral depravities. How about posting suicide pics of someone that was driven to it by forum members? Oh yeah... that's here. Can't get on a moral high horse blanketing a forum's content when posting to somethingawful.com

And the vast majority of Reddit users aren't posting child porn or gore either. I don't post there because it's a pain in the rear end format, but it's a pretty valuable resource for a lot of things like fixing technical issues with things, sharing live streams (sometimes legit) of sports, and self-posted boobs.

What lack? We recently had a moderator who is a pedophile. There is a whole forum here that was known for harboring pedophiles until they were all banned.

The older cars get, the fewer there are, and the more restrictions on what you can do with them. I've no need to see the crew driving an old car sedately around a parking lot. May could do that stuff on YouTube.
