I did stand-up tonight for the first time, with 11 other people who were also doing it for the first time. The advice in this thread was pretty useful. Thanks, goons.

Not even teenager kid is in like 7th grade. Kat Williams felt so threatened by a 12yo that he felt it appropriate to sucker punch the kid and get taken to the ground by said kid. I keep imagining him as Rick James in the old Chappelle Show sketches.

The new Jimmy Carr special is pretty good. Like the last one, it's a bit disappointing that he used some of his old material, but it's more acceptable this time, since this is his first special that's available in the United States.

Comedy Central just announced Nikki Glaser's first hour special, "Perfect," premieres Saturday, April 9th.

I'm enjoying the hell out of her Not Safe show, and I've seen her perform live. She is an excellent stand-up and a future star. On the surface, you might dismiss her as an Amy Schumer ripoff (another pretty blonde talking about sex and what a terrible person she is), but I like that Nikki doesn't go for the occasional off-putting cheap shots or go quite as offensive as Amy and Sarah Silverman sometimes do.

I used to watch @midnight and she was on the show a lot when it was starting out, and she was consistently the funniest person by a lot. Not Safe is awesome and as further evidence that Nikki is the poo poo, she books outstanding comedians as guests like almost every ep. She doesn't take cheap shots at all like you said, she seems to be a happy and kind person and somehow also funny. April 9th is real soon this is great news.

She's in recovery too, which is cool. That has to be a tough business for someone trying not to drink.

My wife and I sat in the front row when we saw her set, and on our way out, we passed her in the bar area, and she smiled a thousand-watt smile and said she recognized us from the front row, and thanked us for coming. I really wish we had asked for a photo with her, but we didn't want to annoy her.

She's gorgeous, too. Inside and out. Just stunningly beautiful, funny as hell, and apparently really nice, from all accounts.

It's come up on at least a few, and iirc Alison Rosen brought it up recently as a reference to her previous interview. Nikki had a few new channels to recommend. It seems nice.

Interesting how many jokes and little quips are word-for-word ripped off from Stewart Lee. Also, can't believe he did the Schumer/Patrice sex positions joke. Otherwise solid effort I guess.

I think ASMR stuff is like if you have no human contact at all in your life, listening to a pretty lady say sweet things into your ear might be pretty nice. I dunno, though. I doubt it would be A Thing at all if the people who are into it just asked their girl-/boyfriends to whisper sweet nothings to them though.

I haven't looked too much into ASMR.. I'm sure there's creepy videos, but there's ones where people run their fingernails over certain objects or talking soft that definitely give me heroin tingles which is the point of the videos. Idk I don't really think it's creepy

Basically, some people get a sensation that's kind of like a light trance with a bit of frisson thrown in when they hear/feel poo poo that includes whispering, getting groomed somehow, getting things explained in particular verbal patterns and so forth.

"Yeah, you get that when you listen to music you dumbass it's called fri-" No, it's not trance or frisson, it's its own separate sensation. I get both, they're very different.

There are people who jerk off to it, because there are people who jerk off to anything and there are chicks who cater to them, like there are chicks who play video games on Twitch with their tits out, but for most people it's not really a sexual thing. It doesn't matter, for example, if it's someone you're attracted to doing it or not.

Yeah it's not sexual at all for me. The video that did it most was some guy shining shoes in a really detailed way. It's a weird/amazing feeling, like I just got into a warm bath. It's a vibration inside like shooting dope but on a really small scale

Not really a stand-up question but what are some good comedian bios where the actual comedian reads the audiobook? I listened to Gethard's book last week and the stories in it are great, but the guy who reads it sounds like he hasn't heard Chris talk once, goes way too dramatic and really lays on the Joirsey accent whenever there's any dialogue.

Conversely, Amy Poehler's book (while I didn't like it that much) is the kind of loose and nicely produced audiobook with lots of guests that I've come to love from John Hodgman's Complete World Knowledge Trilogy. Currently on Moshe Kasher's book and it's the one that feels the most like a "real" memoir so far since it mostly deals with his hosed-up childhood, I can't imagine what this would sound like if it was read by anyone else.

Haven't seen Carr's new standup, but the newest season of Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle has been interesting. The first episode where Chris Morris directly points out that it's the worst season so far and asks him if it's intentional is incredible in retrospect now that 5/6 of the episodes have aired. The previous seasons are great and he's my favorite standup act, but I don't even know if I would recommend watching it since so much seems to be deliberately annoying, time wasting nonsense and jokes that don't actually work as jokes. Like the actual act is just a setup to have Morris berate him in the interview segments for producing something so terrible.

Patton Oswalt's books are both read by him. Zombie Spaceship Wasteland is fun, but only one section of it is great (and boy is it great!), but Silver Screen Fiend is really fantastic and is really strengthened by his reading.

Hasn't Stewart Lee alwasy been kindof self-indulgent though? I only really know his old Top Gear bit, "political correctness gone mad", etc from that era (which imo is great), with the 4th wall interludes &c. What's a representative clip from the show?
