Most/all of these guys have family in China, so lots of points of pressure the CCP can apply. The two who came back recently for a day, both family in Shenzhen. Lee Bo comes back, also for one day and only to cancel a missing persons report, but his wife left for China the day before almost like a hostage exchange situation. Lee Bo didn't even stop at border control on the way back north, his car was just waved right through. Two separate Chinese news agencies both described Lee Bo returning to HK after "being released by mainland police", which sure doesn't sound like someone voluntarily helping with enquires, free to leave any time he wants.

Xi Jinping seems to have gone absolutely apeshit after the economy started slowing down. I'm not an expert at all, but I think the issue with "one country, two systems," is that HK has almost no recourse in this situation. Once the PRC decided to start eroding HK's rights and installing PRC shills into the government, it became way too late to do anything about it.

Accused of a phone scam, they were mostly aquitted in Kenya, but were deported for visa violations. China being China said "they're ours, One China" and had them all sent to Beijing. Gee, who stands to benefit from the last vestiges of foreign support for Tibet disappearing, and Tibetans themselves giving up? Hint: They live in zhongnanhai, and they think of you as a useful idiot.
